ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Installs conduits, wires, pull boxes, switchboards, controllers, and switches required in making additions, extensions, or alterations in electrical systems.
  • Tests, locates, and repairs trouble in electrical circuits and equipment; repairs and replaces defective parts in motors, generators, storage batteries, switchboards, controllers, contractors, switches, and other fixtures and appliances.
  • Maintains a stock of selected electrical supplies; prepares reports and maintains records.
  • Services, repairs, and maintains lighting, power, heating, and traffic lights, as assigned.
  • Provides advice and guidance to individuals responsible for appliance, bulb, ballast, and light fixture repair.
  • Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • At least five (5) years of responsible electrical work experience

  • Valid Master Electrician License from the State of Texas is required. (Copy of Master Electrician License must be attached to the application).
  • Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.

As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.
