Job Description
Harris County Precinct 4 is seeking a skilled and experienced Master Electrician to support the electrical operations across all Precinct 4 facilities. The Master Electrician is responsible for planning, installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems, equipment, and components to ensure safe, reliable, and code-compliant operations. This role works independently and as part of a team to diagnose complex electrical issues, perform preventive maintenance, lead installation projects, and provide technical guidance to apprentice electricians. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality electrical systems that support county operations and public safety.
As a Precinct 4 Master Electrician, you'll work on a wide variety of systems, from everyday repairs to larger seasonal projects, and collaborate closely with other trades. You'll have steady, predictable work; opportunities to develop your technical skills; and the satisfaction of keeping essential facilities safe, functional, and welcoming for the public.
This position reports to the Manager of Trades Operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
Plan and execute new or modified electrical installations to minimize material waste, allow for future maintenance, and comply with specifications and local electrical codes.
Prepare sketches or interpret diagrams and blueprints for wiring and equipment placement, ensuring concealed wiring is completed before walls, ceilings, or flooring are finished.
Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit; pull wiring through conduit.
Install, maintain, and repair lighting systems ranging from office fixtures to sports field lighting on 60-foot poles.
Splice wires and make electrical connections for both single-phase and three-phase systems using appropriate methods and safety practices.
Troubleshoot and repair water wells, lift stations, and other facility-critical electrical systems.
Install control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, circuit breakers, and related components.
Connect power cables to equipment including motors and appliances; install grounding systems.
Test circuits and equipment using electrical testing instruments to ensure functionality, compatibility, and safety.
Inspect and observe installed systems to identify hazards, make adjustments, or determine need for repair or replacement.
Perform corrective repairs and upgrades to electrical systems and equipment.
Provide guidance, support, and training to apprentice electricians on staff.
Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies.
May be required to work before, during, or after an emergency or disaster at the department's discretion.

Requirements
Licensure & Certification:
Valid Texas Master Electrician License, or a valid license from another state with willingness to obtain a Texas license within six months.
Valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Ability to work in all weather conditions and during emergency operations, including disaster response.
Familiarity with or ability to learn county procurement procedures, work order systems, and documentation standards.
Strong commitment to workplace safety and compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents.
Ability to maintain accurate records, prepare routine reports, and use digital tools such as work-order systems and email.
Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks or projects simultaneously.
Strong customer service skills when interacting with county personnel and the public.

Preferences
Experience performing electrical work in government, commercial, industrial, or large-campus environments.
Experience with electrical systems commonly found in public facilities, including parks, community buildings, sports field lighting, water wells, and lift stations.
Experience mentoring or providing direction to apprentices or junior staff.
Training or certification in NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety in the Workplace).
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.

This may include weekends and holidays.
