Job Summary
The Intake Clinician provides clinical assessment and triage services within the Comprehensive Services Center (CSC). This role evaluates individuals for psychiatric treatment needs, makes appropriate referrals to CSC and community-based services, and supports access to care in the least restrictive setting. The Intake Clinician works to reduce unnecessary hospitalizations and ensure timely connection to appropriate services.
 
Responsibilities
  • Conducts initial screenings and assessments for individuals requesting CSC services, including crisis intervention.
  • Evaluates crisis calls, walk-ins, and referrals using Baker Act criteria and DSM-5 standards to determine service needs.
  • Completes and documents screenings, assessments, and all required clinical information in accordance with CSC policies and procedures.
  • Conducts comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments for individuals requiring clinical services.
  • Develops diagnostic impressions based on assessment findings.
  • Identifies appropriate service types, frequency, and level of care.
  • Develops initial treatment plans.
  • Conducts suicide risk assessments and identifies individuals requiring acute or higher levels of care.
  • Determines and facilitates appropriate level of care in accordance with clinical findings and established procedures.
  • Ensures appropriate follow-up and continuity of care, connecting individuals to ongoing treatment as indicated.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and confidential clinical records and remains current on Baker Act requirements, forms, and procedures.
  • Serves as an advocate by explaining Baker Act regulations to families, agencies, and other stakeholders to support patient rights and safety.
  • Completes required financial and authorization documentation.
  • Maintains knowledge of third-party payer requirements, including notifications and pre-certifications for outpatient and inpatient services.
  • Assesses and monitors for risk factors, trauma symptoms, and signs of abuse, neglect, or abandonment; follows appropriate reporting protocols.

  • Reduces time spent on documentation, allowing more focus on client interaction and care 
  • Transforms brief notes or session conversations into complete, clinically appropriate documentation 
  • Supports accurate, compliant documentation while allowing staff to review and finalize notes 
  • Provides helpful insights from sessions to support care planning and continuity 
  • Accessible on desktop or mobile for flexibility across different work settings 
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Social Work or a related Human Services field from an accredited college or university required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with individuals with mental illness required.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in MHRC EHR System within three months of employment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, and internet use required.
  • Valid Florida Registered Intern credential (IMH, ISW, or IMT) or Florida licensure (LMHC, LCSW, or LMFT) preferred.
  • Excellent customer service skills are essential and this individual must be able to interact appropriately with internal and external customers, including individuals served, families, caregivers, community service providers, supervisory staff and other department professionals.  
Position Details
This position is a Full Time Days position: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm and will float between MHRC North and MHRC South.

Founded in Jacksonville in May 1977, Mental Health Resource Center, Inc. (MHRC) is a Florida not-for-profit corporation that provides a wide range of behavioral health and social services to the community.  Included in MHRC’s service array are 24-hour emergency services; inpatient psychiatric services for children, adolescents and adults; and numerous outpatient services, including medication management, case management, counseling, supported housing, psychosocial rehabilitation, two programs for the homeless, a therapeutic family program, state hospital liaison services, forensic services, in-jail services, and nine Florida Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) programs for adults with severe and persistent mental illness located in Clearwater, Gainesville, Jacksonville, Kissimmee, Naples, Rockledge, Tampa, and Winter Haven. 

Since 1989, MHRC’s programs have been fully accredited by The Joint Commission.  Inpatient services are licensed by the State of Florida, Agency for Health Care Administration.  MHRC is a certified agency of United Way of Northeast Florida.      

MHRC accepts and directly bills most insurance plans, including Medicaid, Medicare and most private insurance plans.  Individuals who do not have health insurance and cannot afford our standard rates may be eligible for a reduced fee, depending on their income and number of household members.  Some MHRC programs are funded in part by the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) and its managing entities, LSF Health Systems, Central Florida Behavioral Health Network, and Central Florida Cares Health System; the federal government; and the City of Jacksonville.
