Job Description

The Transloader / Material Handler supports outdoor transloading operations in an industrial rail car environment, working directly with chemical hoses, regulated materials, PPE, and material handling equipment. The role is highly hands-on and focuses on safely transferring materials while adhering to strict safety procedures and regulatory requirements. This position is primarily outdoors, with most work performed away from the main office and in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on transloading duties in a rail car and industrial environment, ensuring safe and efficient transfer of materials.
• Work with chemical hoses, material handling equipment, and related tools to load and unload regulated and non-regulated materials.
• Wear and properly use required personal protective equipment, including respirators, Tyvek suits, fall protection, and other safety gear.
• Climb equipment and work safely at heights when required, following all fall protection protocols.
• Follow established safety procedures and regulatory guidelines while working around chemicals, rail cars, and industrial materials.
• Support outdoor site operations in all weather conditions, maintaining productivity and safety standards.
• Participate in company-provided training programs, including HazWoper training if not already certified.
• Collaborate with team members to coordinate transloading activities and maintain smooth site operations.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring equipment and materials are stored and handled safely.
• Adhere to work schedules, including overtime and 6-day workweeks as needed to meet operational demands.

Essential Skills

• Experience in material handling or transloading, particularly in industrial or rail car environments.
• Ability to work safely around rail cars, rail spurs, chemicals, and industrial equipment.
• Comfort working outdoors for the majority of the day in varying weather conditions.
• Ability and willingness to wear a respirator, Tyvek suit, fall protection, and all required PPE.
• Capability to climb equipment and work at heights while following safety procedures.
• High school diploma required.
• Ability to work overtime and a 6-day schedule as needed.
• Reliability in adhering to early start times, typically around 6:00–6:30 AM, based on seasonal permit and sunlight hours.
• Ability to participate in and successfully complete safety and HazWoper training.
• Physical ability to perform manual, hands-on work in an industrial outdoor environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working around rail cars or rail spurs is strongly preferred.
• Chemical handling experience or prior work around chemicals in an industrial setting.
• Experience in environmental services or regulated material handling is beneficial.
• Warehouse or general material handling experience may be considered if the candidate is trainable and eager to learn.
• Strong commitment to safety and adherence to PPE requirements, including being able to wear a respirator.
• Willingness to work second shift (approximately 2:00 PM–12:00 AM) or third shift (approximately 6:00 PM–4:00 AM) after completing training.
• Ability to adapt to changing operational needs and seasonal schedule adjustments.

Work Environment

This role is based in an industrial rail car setting and is primarily outdoors, with limited shelter throughout the day. Work is performed away from the main office and in the elements, including varying weather conditions. An office trailer, shaded areas, air conditioning, shore power, and designated areas for breaks are available, but the core duties take place outside around rail cars, chemicals, and industrial equipment. Employees use chemical hoses, material handling equipment, and must consistently wear required PPE such as respirators, Tyvek suits, fall protection, and other safety gear. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday with generally 8-hour days and generous overtime, and the team typically works 6 days per week, including either Saturday or Sunday. Start times are generally around 6:00–6:30 AM, adjusted based on seasonal permit and daylight hours. Training is conducted on day shift for approximately three months, after which employees move into second shift (about 2:00 PM–12:00 AM) or third shift (about 6:00 PM–4:00 AM) to support continuous site operations.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Commerce City, CO.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
