Material Handler

SUMMARY

The Material Handler is responsible for the safe receipt, storage, handling, movement, and distribution of materials, tools, equipment, and supplies within an industrial facility. This position supports production, maintenance, construction, and warehouse operations by ensuring materials are delivered accurately and efficiently while maintaining inventory accuracy and adhering to all company safety standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive, inspect, unload, and verify incoming materials against purchase orders, packing slips, and shipping documents.
  • Load, unload, transport, stage, and distribute materials, equipment, tools, and supplies throughout the facility.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, overhead cranes, hoists, and other material-handling equipment in a safe manner.
  • Pull, package, label, and prepare materials for work orders, maintenance activities, and outbound shipments.
  • Maintain organized warehouse, laydown yards, and storage areas to ensure efficient material retrieval.
  • Perform inventory counts, cycle counts, and stock replenishment activities.
  • Accurately record inventory transactions using computerized inventory management systems such as SAP, Maximo, Oracle, or other warehouse software.
  • Identify damaged, defective, or incorrect materials and report discrepancies to supervision.
  • Assist with shipping, receiving, and logistics coordination.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including receiving reports, inventory logs, transfer records, and shipping paperwork.
  • Support outage, turnaround, and maintenance activities by ensuring timely delivery of materials to work crews.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in warehouse and storage areas.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, including proper lifting techniques and equipment operating procedures.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of warehouse operations and inventory control procedures.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment.
  • Ability to read packing slips, shipping documents, material lists, and inventory records.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with inventory management systems.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and turnaround schedules as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in warehouse, shipping/receiving, inventory control, or material handling in an industrial, refinery, petrochemical, manufacturing, or construction environment preferred.
  • Forklift certification preferred or ability to obtain certification.
  • Experience with SAP, Maximo, Oracle, or other inventory management systems preferred.
  • TWIC card may be required depending on facility location.
  • Valid driver''s license may be required.
