    Job Description

Southern Specialties is looking for a dependable/hard working individual for the role of Material Handler-Inventory Control to join our growing team in our climate-controlled sheet metal fabrication assembly plant. We build high-quality, precision products — and we need someone who helps keep materials moving smoothly and safely through our shop.
If you’re organized, safety-focused, and enjoy hands-on work in a clean, team-oriented environment — this could be the perfect fit for you!
    Hours: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

    What You’ll Do
    • Receive, check, and organize incoming materials and supplies with the use of a scan gun.
    • Stock and transfer materials in the right location so the team can find what they need.
    • Pick parts and prepare orders for shipping to customers or for in-house jobs.
    • Help load and unload trucks and trailers safely.
    • Keep accurate inventory records and assist with cycle counts.
    • Help develop and execute plans to eliminate the root causes of inventory errors.
    • Use forklifts and other equipment to move materials around the shop.
    • Work closely with other team members to complete projects on time.
    • Follow all safety rules and keep your workspace neat and organized.

What Is Required For This Role
    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a “Controlled Warehouse” or “Warehouse Management System” manufacturing environment where the use of scan guns are heavily used for transferring material throughout the Plant and refilling parts when triggered.
    • Strong attention to detail focus required for success in this position.
    • Forklift operating experience preferred (we can train the right person).
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs safely utilizing “team lift” when appropriate and be able to stand for long periods of time.
    • Basic computer skills for inventory and tracking.
    • Ability to read and follow directions, both written and spoken.
    • A strong focus on safety and teamwork.
    • Dependable, self-motivated, and ready to take initiative.
    • Positive attitude and willingness to learn new things.

    Responsibilities:
    • Effectively and accurately maintain inventory throughout the plant to include picking parts, putting parts away in designated storage locations, and staging parts for job packets while utilizing a scan gun to perform all functions.
    • Safely utilize material handling equipment to include stand-up/sit-down forklifts and pallet jacks (both manual and electric) for material movement.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment
Jobs which involve one or more tasks or duties that could affect the safety and health of the employee performing the task or others are considered safety-sensitive. This position is safety-sensitive because, in addition to the essential functions, it also involves performing one or more of the following essential tasks or duties:
    • The handling, packaging, processing, storage, disposal or transport of hazardous material.
    • The operation of a motor vehicle, other vehicle, equipment, machinery or power tools.
    • Repairing, maintaining, or monitoring the performance or operation of any equipment, machinery or manufacturing process, the malfunction or disruption of which could result in injury or property damage.
    • The operation, maintenance, or oversight of critical services and infrastructure including, but not limited to, electric, gas, and water utilities, power generation or distribution.
    • The extraction, compression, processing, manufacturing, handling, packaging, storage, disposal, treatment or transport of potentially volatile, flammable, combustible materials, elements, chemicals or any other highly regulated component.
Generally, 95% of the normal work shift requires standing, bending, squatting, and climbing while performing Material Handling-Inventory Control duties. Lifting of parts, weighing up to 50 pounds, from floor level, and carrying them 10 to 15 feet may be required. Lifting devices and team lifting should be used when possible. Parts must be lifted, pulled, pushed, and held in place, without benefit of material handling devices due to limited space and confined areas in and around machines.
