Position Summary The Material Handling Lead is responsible for leading the second shift Material Handling team to ensure the safe, timely, and accurate movement of materials throughout the facility. This position oversees daily operations, assigns work based on the pressing schedule, monitors productivity, ensures inventory accuracy, and promotes a safe and organized work environment. The Lead serves as the primary point of contact for material handling operations during second shift and works closely with Pressing, Warehouse, and Recycling Departments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Leadership - Lead and direct second shift Material Handlers to ensure daily production goals are achieved.
- Assign daily tasks and establish work priorities based on operational needs.
- Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to team members.
- Ensure employees follow company policies, safety procedures, and standard operating procedures.
- Communicate shift expectations, priorities, and operational updates during shift meetings with 1st shift Material Handling Lead.
- Report attendance, performance concerns, and safety issues to the Warehouse Manager.
Material Handling Operations - Coordinate the movement of raw materials, finished goods, compounds, and packaging materials throughout the facility with PDA or manually.
- Ensure Pressing Department remain adequately supplied with materials.
- Monitor transport tasks and ensure timely completion.
- Clean and purge presses for color changes
- Ensure flash grinders are in proper use
- Assist with handling unit movement/management and inventory corrections as needed using IFS Cloud.
Safety & Quality - Promote and enforce all OSHA and company safety standards.
- Conduct routine inspections of work areas to maintain housekeeping standards (5S).
- Ensure powered industrial equipment is operated safely and only by certified personnel.
- Report equipment issues, damaged materials, or unsafe conditions immediately.
- Assist with incident investigations and corrective actions when necessary.
Equipment - Operate forklifts, reach trucks, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely.
- Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance needs.
- Ensure batteries are charged and equipment is maintained according to company procedures.
Communication - Coordinate with Pressing Supervisors and Leads to prioritize material requests.
- Maintain effective communication with first shift leadership during shift turnover.
- Communicate inventory discrepancies or operational concerns promptly.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the warehouse.
Qualifications - High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 2 years of warehouse or material handling experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
- Experience using warehouse management systems or ERP software (IFS Cloud preferred).
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
