JOB SUMMARYThe Material Handler is responsible for the safe operation of a Powered Industrial Vehicle (PIV) to assist with material handling, shipping, receiving and other activities. The list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may expand to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Comply with company Safety Policies and ProceduresLoads and unloads materials (4x16 pallets) onto or from trucks by forklift as required.Loading and verification of outgoing shipments for accuracy and quality/quantity of part numbersVerify products picked match the shipping orderEnsure items received are delivered and put away dailyEnsure material storage areas and receiving area are kept clean from debris and trashDistribute requested items to production line in an accurate and timely fashion as neededImprove and maintain plant and outside yard 5S/SafetyManually handle product combining and sorting material from pallet to palletAssist with yearly Physical InventoryOther projects as requested Regular attendance, timeliness and scheduling flexibilityKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESSort, stage & load pallets and related material in a safe manner following Westlake Forklift Safe Operation guidelines and policiesAssist in inventory management of pallets to ensure production operations continue without interruptionRequired to operate a sit-down forklift and/or electric pallet jack in a safe and efficient mannerAble to effectively work within a diverse team environment and be productive while unsupervisedBasic Computer skills Must be able to read and interpret documents such as shipping/receiving informationAbility to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule formSome minor pallet repairsEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEThe employee should have the following:High School Diploma or equivalent and training or certification in relevant skill or trade1 - 2 years' experience in a relevant fieldESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENTThe employee should possess the ability to:Be exposed to sounds or noise levels that maybe uncomfortable Withstand exposure to temperature extremes inside or outProlong standing or in stationary positionComplete repetitive movementsBend and/or twist Lift/move/transport items up to 50 poundsAbility to move or traverse about the facilitiesAbility to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and in various environmental conditionsWear all required personal protective equipment (hearing, vision and hardhat protection)Must be able to work split shift (to train off shifts on safety concerns and changes)Clarity of hearing and speechMust be able to climb, balance or smell This is not necessarily an all-inclusive list of job-related responsibilities, duties, skills, efforts, requirements or working conditions.All duties and responsibilities are essential job functions and requirements and are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities or may exclude individuals who pose a direct threat or significant risk to the health or safety of themselves or others.
