As a member of the Cooper Steel team, performance includes demonstration of the following accountabilities: communication, teamwork, job knowledge and leadership.POSITION SUMMARYThe Material Handler is responsible for operating overhead cranes, forklifts, and semi-truck / trailer in order to move material around the yard in a safe and efficient manner. Learn proper rigging and loading techniquesPRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:Promote a strong quality culture throughout the company maintaining Cooper Steel's core priorities: Safety, Quality, ProductionLoad and unload delivery trucks using overhead cranes and forkliftsRead and understand load list to calculate material size and length when loadingUnderstand units of measure, general mathematical equationsOperate equipment / machinery and perform other job duties necessary within the shop and yardTransport materials using tractor trailer trucksInspect tools and equipment daily before use and maintain in good working orderOther duties as assignedSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESNo supervisory responsibilitiesQUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. While performing certain duties of the job, the employee is required to squat, bend, twist, lift, pull, and reach. Lifting is required up to 75 lbs. Climbing is required up to 6 feet off the ground on a ladder or loading equipment. Must be flexible in hours worked and willing to work overtime.WORK ENVIRONMENTPosition performs work mostly in the Yard setting which includes a variety of working conditions. These include the following conditions: noise level fluctuations from moderate to high, use of personal protective equipment, machine/equipment use. Position involves everyday risks or exposure to elements that require safety precautions. Position will be required to work in adverse weather conditions such as heat, humidity, cold, precipitation, etc.
