Material Handler/Shipping Technician
Job Description Summary
Oxford Forge is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Material Handler / Shipping & Receiving Associate for our First Shift team. This position is responsible for safely moving materials throughout the facility, loading and unloading trucks, receiving incoming shipments, and ensuring finished goods are shipped accurately and on time.
The ideal candidate has excellent forklift skills, experience in shipping and receiving operations, strong communication skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Job Description:
- Safely operate forklifts and other powered industrial trucks in accordance with company safety policies.
- Load and unload inbound and outbound trucks while ensuring materials are properly secured and handled.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with truck drivers regarding deliveries, pickups, paperwork, and dock assignments.
- Verify incoming shipments for accuracy and inspect materials for damage.
- Receive materials into the PLEX ERP system accurately and maintain inventory integrity.
- Prepare shipments by properly tagging, labeling, staging, and securing materials.
- Understand and follow proper material identification and tagging procedures.
- Ensure products are loaded correctly to prevent damage during transportation.
- Transport raw materials and finished goods throughout the facility.
- Move inventory to designated storage locations and production areas.
- Maintain accurate shipping, receiving, and inventory records within PLEX.
- Inspect forklifts daily and report maintenance or safety concerns.
- Assist with cycle counts and inventory accuracy as needed.
- Maintain organized warehouse and shipping areas using good housekeeping practices.
- Follow all company safety policies, quality standards, and legal requirements.
- Work closely with production, scheduling, and customer service to ensure timely shipments.
Required Skills and Education
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous forklift experience in a manufacturing environment required.
- Shipping and Receiving experience preferred.
- Experience using an ERP system such as PLEX is preferred.
- Strong understanding of shipping documentation, receiving procedures, and inventory control.
- Knowledge of proper material tagging, labeling, and loading/unloading practices.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, especially when interacting with truck drivers and carriers.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts with a high level of proficiency.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent attendance and reliability.
- Ability to obtain forklift certification.
- Manufacturing or automotive industry experience.
