The Material Handler is responsible for loading and unloading material within a warehouse, rail car, or storage facility and for effectively and efficiently staging all material at designated loading/unloading areas for distribution. Candidate must have truck driving experience.
Responsibilities
- Loads and unloads material within a warehouse or storage facility
- Utilizes hand trucks, forklifts, pallet jack, hoists, conveyors, or handling equipment to move material to and from delivery transportation vehicles and within warehouse or storage facility or work in process
- Fills in when necessary to maintain flow of material
- Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
- Ensures safety procedures, practices, and processes are followed at all times
- Identifies potential hazards in the workplace and takes action to eliminate/minimize risks, which includes communicating to management any product availability issues
- Promotes safety awareness and immediately reports any unsafe acts, conditions, or unsafe equipment within the facility
- Maintains a clean and orderly work environment while ensuring housekeeping duties are completed as required
- Works with assigned team and other warehouse employees to ensure positive employee relations within the team
- Loads, transports, and unloads materials, tools, equipment, and supplies as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Greater than 3 years of experience in a lead warehouse/material handling or production role in a warehouse or production environment
- Greater than three years of experience in material handling equipment and a valid operators license for equipment is preferred
- Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in material handling field; extensive knowledge preferred
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to perform repetitive tasks with focus on instructions and safety
- Ability to prioritize with an emphasis on quality of work and sense of urgency
- Ability to complete necessary training and follow safety policies, procedures, and processes
- Ability to hold self and assigned team accountable for areas of responsibility and for actions
- Willingness and desire to perform responsibilities accurately and efficiently with a high level of customer service
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation(s)
- Ability to successfully obtain a forklift certification (both written and practical tests)
- Ability and willingness to cross train in other areas for back up coverage as needed
- Demonstrates a high level of customer service
- Availability and willingness to work hours outside of the normal scheduled work week and/or weekends with limited or no advance notice should it be required due to business necessity
