Job Description: Supervisor, Material Handling & Classification

Shift: Weekend Day Shift
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Supervisor, Material Handling & Classification to provide senior-level supervision within Plasma Logistics Operations. This role is responsible for overseeing the receipt, handling, verification, storage, inventory management, and distribution of human blood plasma while ensuring the highest standards of regulatory compliance, quality, and safety. The supervisor will also support departmental management with budgeting, resource planning, and operational efficiency initiatives. Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise the receipt, handling, verification, storage, and distribution of plasma in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), OSHA standards, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all plasma shipments, production units, and lots meet applicable quality, storage, and production standards, and are delivered on schedule to internal and external customers.
  • Manage the identification, removal, documentation, and disposition of unacceptable plasma units according to established procedures.
  • Interview, hire, train, coach, and supervise non-exempt employees within Plasma Operations.
  • Monitor employee performance, quality standards, productivity, and employee relations to maintain an effective and compliant work environment.
  • Develop, maintain, and update departmental SOPs to ensure alignment with current operational processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate and oversee all inventory transactions related to plasma storage and movement while maintaining inventory accuracy targets.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality Operations, Freight Carriers, and other internal and external stakeholders to resolve operational issues and ensure smooth workflow.
  • Partner with Quality Operations to assess incoming plasma and determine disposition status (acceptable, discrepant, or non-conforming).
  • Assist management with annual budget preparation, monthly expense monitoring, and resource planning activities.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing, equipment, and supply levels are maintained to support operational requirements.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
  • Strong knowledge of inventory control, warehousing, logistics, and distribution operations.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes related to raw plasma or regulated biological products.
  • Thorough understanding of cGMP regulations, quality systems, and compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated leadership, team management, and independent decision-making capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and prioritization abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • High sense of urgency and commitment to quality and compliance.
Education & Experience:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in logistics, warehousing, materials inventory planning, distribution, or related operations.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science, Business Administration, Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Experience working with raw plasma, biologics, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, blood products, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
