Material Manager Full Time

Materials Manager

The Materials Manager is responsible for performing the duties in the Receiving Area, ordering facility supplies and equipment, meeting and negotiating prices with sales representative, and contributing o the overall purpose and objectives for the facility.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in the establishment of a system for identifying and maintain the supply/receiving area needs, monitors progress and evaluates results.
  • Assists in the development of Quality improvement Review for the material/supplies area. 
  • Continually reviews existing par levels of stock and supplies, increasing or decreasing when needed.
  • Maintains accurate purchase orders and inventory control filing systems.
  • Provides economic and conservative management of facility inventory.
  • Provides adequate and efficient utilization of supplies and equipment to avoid out dates, overages, or shortages of supplies
  • Assesses daily material needs and orders supplies as required to maintain adequate par levels to facilitate the smooth operation of surgical cases.
  • Performs quarterly inventory and updates the computerized inventory system, adding or deleting items as necessary to ensure proper patient charging and billing.
  • Meets with and negotiates prices with sales representative and keeps accurate records of price quotes and purchased items; keeps in contact with sales reps regarding case times and needs.
  • Responsible for the receiving area and stocking the supply room and dispersing supplies to appropriate storage areas throughout the facility.
  • Maintains a coordinated, organized and safe work area.
  • Implements safety procedures and provides continual vigilance against accidents, fire, theft, vandalism, harm, and inappropriate disclosure of private information.
  • Develops and maintains personal skills by keeping up with current developments in management and profession thinking. 
  • Reports all undesirable matters, services and facilities requiring correction to the Nurse Manager.
  • Assists the nursing, anesthesia and business departments with duties pertaining to the use, utilization and procurement of supplies and equipment
  • Participates in staff meetings.
  • Attends in-services programs as appropriate.
  • Assists in orientation of new employees with reference to supplies and the receiving area.
  • Changes work schedule as required by the supervisor to adjust for special needs, absences and other unexpected occurrences.
  • Participates in the Quality Improvement process and activities including he areas of safety, infection control, patient education/teaching, documentation, adhere to guidelines for cleaning/decontamination of the facility, adherence to guidelines for sterilization of instruments and supplies, patient satisfaction, physician satisfaction, compliance with OSHA standards, and risk management.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Maintains certification in CPR

Working Conditions

  • Standing and/or walking a considerable amount of duty time.
  • Pushing, pulling, lifting and position light heavy equipment and patients.

  • Must have knowledge of surgical supplies and patient care items. possess strong organizational skills and flexibility.
  • Able to work independently and within a team
  • Present a professional image at all times
  • May require working overtime to meet job responsibilities
