Vacancy exists for the position of Material Specialist in T&D Material Operations department. Please see the attached job description and outline pertaining to the recruiting process.
Normal Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years of Warehousing experience required
- Possess a valid, up-to-date driver’s license
- Ability to obtain/maintain a valid a Class A driver’s license (CDL)
- Inventory experience related to order picking and stocking equipment
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Software
- Ability to learn the required duties and following instructions
- Ability to perform work in a safe and productive manner with fellow workers and customers
- Ability to work overtime, holidays, weekends, shift work and in inclement weather
- Must have verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to follow instructions
- Ability to read, write legibly, distinguish color codes

There will be a three-part testing procedure required for this position. The first step is a written exam followed by a hands-on practical assessment and a behavioral based interview. Each step of the process must be passed to progress to the next step. We are providing an outline to prepare for the three-part testing procedure. The outline is designed to maximize test results by centralizing study times in the areas listed below:

Behavioral Based Interview
In this process, we believe that past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior. We have patterned the questions during the interview to solicit behavior patterns that indicate with high predictability whether the candidate can perform the job as required. This type of interview is different from those that you may have taken in the past.
How do you get ready for the interview?

Position Description:
Performs the physical and administrative tasks required for the processing and receiving of all inventory related items. To include processing of all issues, returns, and receiving to support construction activities of the Company and other UNS affiliates. Operates vehicles such as truck and trailer combinations, pickups, cars, general line equipment, and forklifts. Operate and rig material handling equipment with a capacity of 8,000 pounds or more, not to exceed loads of 30,000 pounds.
Position-Related Responsibilities:
- Assist personnel in the department they are assigned to complete daily tasks.
- Perform work alone within the conformance of training and safe work practices.
- Able to take directions and have a willingness to learn.
- Perform assigned work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with Company practices and procedures. This is a safety sensitive position.
- Able to safely perform work within their training and ability.
- Documents and stocks, issues, and returns of material to support Material Operations.
- Performs order picking and stocking of material to support Material Operations activities as required.
- Packages materials and performs pickups and deliveries as required.
- Supports physical inventory requirements as required.
- Performs basic labor and housekeeping tasks to support Material Operations.
- Physically identifies, reviews, and inspects all incoming material to support the physical receiving function.
- Ability to load and unload trucks, trailers, railcars, vans, storage racks, and stacks, sorts, and palletizes materials as required.
- Operates order picking and stocking equipment to support Material Operation activities as required.
- Perform specialized tasks of assembling, kitting, disassembling, and reclaiming of inventory material as needed.
- Performs necessary documentation to support all Material Operation transactions that impact the General Ledger (receipts, issues, and returns).
- Maintain a high level of awareness and responsibility for environmental considerations that impact them, their jobs, and the Company to the level of their knowledge, training, and experience.
- Operates vehicles such as truck and trailer combinations, pickups, cars, general line equipment, and forklifts. Operate and rig material handling equipment with a capacity of 8,000 pounds or more, not to exceed loads of 30,000 pounds.
- Perform assigned work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with the Company practices and procedures.
- Shift work is required.
- Overtime work is required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must pass training and testing required to advance to Sr. Material Specialist classification
- Progression to next steps (four – 6-month intervals) is based on demonstrating a satisfactory work record and successfully passing job related tests at the end of each step. Employees failing the test shall remain in that step for an additional six months, at which time tests will be administered again.

- This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must have completed the requirements for the Material Specialist Trainee role.
- Become familiar with the basic skills inherent in the classification in which they are aligned.
- Must possesses a valid up-to-date Driver's License and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License.
- Must be/become qualified and maintain forklift qualifications.
- Must have inventory experience related to order picking and stocking equipment.
- Must possesses the ability to learn the required duties and the physical coordination necessary to use special tools and equipment associated with work area.
- Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Software.
- Must have knowledge of Materials Work Management Systems (Purchasing & Inventory).
- Must have basic math skills.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to work overtime, holidays, weekends, shift work and in inclement weather.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to read, write legibly, distinguish color codes.
- Physically able to lift, climb ladders, and work at heights for extended periods of time and carry heavy weights, within the scope of safe work practices.
- Experience operating vehicles such as electric carts, fork lifts and truck and trailer combinations, preferred.
- Possess the ability to learn the required duties and the physical coordination necessary to use tools and equipment associated with his/her work area.
- Have basic understanding and comply with all TEP safety rules and regulations.
- Maintain high level of awareness and responsibility for environmental considerations that impact them, their jobs and the company to the level of their knowledge, training and experience.

- Work under minimum supervision; must be trained and certified to perform work alone and perform tasks of a Material Specialist as part of a progressive training program.
