Position Summary
The Material Systems Technician is responsible for mixing, grinding, moving, and managing all raw materials used in the production of injection molded products. This role ensures proper handling of virgin materials, regrind, recyclable scrap, and waste materials while operating, programming, and performing minor maintenance on the complete material handling system.
What You Will Do
Review production schedules and prepare materials according to work orders
Read, follow, and verify work orders to ensure products meet specifications
Accurately complete electronic Material Log sheets each shift
Change materials as required and properly identify and label all materials
Program, set up, operate, and monitor material handling systems including blenders, dryers, hoppers, and grinder evacuation units
Troubleshoot and correct common material and system-related issues
Perform daily moisture testing using a Max 4000XL Moisture Analyzer and document results
Clean and maintain material blenders, hoppers, dryers, grinders, and pump filters
Complete material transactions in the ERP system for additions and subtractions
Conduct visual inspections of manufactured parts for quality
Perform weekly, biweekly, and monthly cycle counts of raw materials
Unload bulk material trucks into designated silos following specific work instructions
Verify closed-loop regrind systems are operational
Mix raw materials using correct formulas
Weigh, document, and manage scrap materials for reuse, recycling, or disposal
Maintain clean and organized material handling areas through daily and weekly housekeeping procedures
Support Quality and Environmental System certifications by following policies, procedures, and documentation requirements
Attend and successfully complete forklift certification
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills & Abilities
Ability to read, understand, and follow work orders
Accurate completion of electronic material logs
Ability to identify and label virgin, regrind, recyclable, and waste materials
Ability to perform material changes and cleaning during production transitions
Ability to take moisture samples and document results accurately
Ability to complete material transactions using an ERP system
Strong teamwork and communication skills
Ability to inspect production for quality defects
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
Minimum 1 year of material handling experience preferred (injection molding experience a plus)
Forklift experience preferred (certification provided)
Basic math skills required
Ability to read, write, and follow instructions in English
Computer familiarity and basic data entry skills
Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 85 lbs
Good physical stamina and ability to stand for extended periods
Willingness to work overtime and rotating weekends as required
Ability to work non-standard hours as business needs require
