Job Summary
We are seeking an organized, detail-oriented Materials & Shipping Coordinator to join our two-person materials handling team at our Kalkaska facility. In this role, you will work hands-on to oversee the receiving, storage, and distribution of materials, parts, and supplies. You will play a crucial role in maintaining proper inventory, resolving stock discrepancies, and driving process improvements while collaborating with production, purchasing, and customer service teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Inventory & Warehouse Management: Maintain warehouse organization using FIFO processes, perform regular cycle counts, perform annual physical inventories, and research/resolve discrepant inventory issues promptly.
- Material Handling & Logistics: Receive raw materials (including raw steel and purchased supplies), operate a forklift to unload trucks, enter receiving transactions into ERP software (Global Shop), and deliver materials to production departments.
- Quality & Vendor Coordination: Inspect incoming raw materials against quality specifications, tag materials with part numbers, monitor reject/scrap levels, and liaise with vendors regarding shipment discrepancies or missing paperwork.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with production to prepare and issue materials according to daily needs, communicate inventory risks to purchasing, and collaborate with customer service on shipping issues.
- Safety & Standards: Maintain a safe work environment aimed at zero incidents and follow standard operating procedures to meet quality specs and drive efficiency.
Qualifications
- **Education: **High School diploma or GED equivalent
- **Experience: **Minimum 2 years of experience working in a warehouse (preferably manufacturing environment), receiving materials and shipping finished goods.
- Technical Skills: Computer proficiency with experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ERP systems (Global Shop experience is a plus!).
- Certifications: Ability to obtain and maintain a valid forklift driver's license.
- Core Skills: Basic inspection and measuring skills, intermediate math skills (calculating percentages, proportions, and basic algebra/geometry), and strong written and verbal communication.
**Physical Demands:
** Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 lbs, stand, stoop, kneel, and work in a shop environment near moving mechanical parts.
