Overview As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will be responsible for identifying materials and processes to increase manufacturability of liquid rocket engine hardware for the Materials And Process Engineer role at Blue Origin. You'll be expected to develop these materials and processes and qualify them for use on production hardware, ensuring all performance requirements will be met after exposure to the range of extreme environments inherent in liquid rocket engines. Passion for our mission and vision is required!Responsibilities Interpret production drawings systematically, understanding the need for processes to meet established requirements.Lead and coordinate internal and external material qualification and process development activities.Identify low maturity technologies to improve technical performance or manufacturability of liquid rocket engines.Define material and/or process development and qualification plans in order to utilize novel materials and processes on liquid rocket engine hardwareCollaborate closely with design, analysis, manufacturing, and quality engineers to disposition nonconforming hardware.Identify root causes of nonconforming hardware and work proactively to identify and implement corrective actions.Identify and implement process improvements to lower cost and production time while maintaining technical requirements.Contribute to the development of internal engineering and quality processes to standardize and accelerate material evaluation, implementation, and qualification.Evaluate and select appropriate cleaning materials, chemicals, and equipment to achieve desired surface finishes.Minimum Qualifications 2+ years directly related materials and processes experience.Minimum B.S. in Material Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related fieldProven experience developing and executing test plans for analysis and qualification of components, materials, and processes.Familiarity with standard methods of manufacturing, such as welding, brazing, precision cleaning, mechanical fastening, and coating applicationUnderstanding of aerospace manufacturing and quality management systemsStrong written and personal computer skills.Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.Preferred Qualifications Masters or PhD in Material Science/Engineering or related fieldExperience in the production, manufacturing, and assembly of rocket propulsion hardwareExperience and working knowledge of design and function of liquid rocket engine propulsion assemblies and components.Experience with a variety of cleaning methods (e.g., ultrasonic, solvent, aqueous) and surface finishing techniques (e.g., plating, painting, coating)Demonstrated experience (M&P signatory authority) on a flight production program.Deep technical understanding of surface chemistry, polymeric materials, or metal forming processesExperience with cryogenic fluids, including oxygen compatibility and hydrogen compatibilityExperience with aerospace quality management systems supporting propulsion hardwareExperience transitioning materials and processes from development to productionProven experience managing technology development projects, measuring technical progress, resources, and managing budgets.Seniority level Mid-Senior levelEmployment type Full-timeJob function Engineering and Information TechnologyIndustries Aviation and Aerospace Component Manufacturing#J-18808-Ljbffr
