The Role -

Amphenol Aerospace is seeking aMaterials Engineerto work out its state-of-the-art facility in Sidney, NY.

TheMaterials Engineerperforms polymer materials activities, selections, and interpretations related to technical design and manufacturing support for engineering materials and processes. Performs laboratory projects on a service basis to design engineering, manufacturing engineering, production, procurement, and quality control. Activities include characterization, specification, and approval of materials and processes to support/expand product lines in accordance with Amphenol's strategic plans.

The key responsibilities of theMaterials Engineerinclude, but are not limited to:

  • Review design selections of materials to ensure compliance with internal and external specifications
  • Prepare internal material specifications such as raw material specifications, process techniques, and customer requirements
  • Perform and document failure analysis on both in plant failures and returned parts from the customers
  • Provide expertise in polymer-based materials and their specifications - AMS, ASTM, customer specifications, and quality system AS9100
  • Arrange for outside testing and work with the source on interpretation\dissemination of the final reports
  • Maintain the materials lab
  • Research and recommend new technology and materials to continue to improve Amphenol's leading edge in the connector business
  • Work with other departments and customers in a service role to help solve material related problems
  • Identify and help bring on-line new suppliers such as elastomer, potting and bonding, and polymer sources

Salary: $62,354- $85,000

The Person -

The key skills and qualities of aMaterials Engineerat Amphenol Aerospace:

  • Minimum 4 year degree in engineering or materials science (polymer core curriculum) or other related scientific field based on specific experience
  • Strong, diversified knowledge of materials, processes, and relevant specifications to support military/aerospace/industrial connectors is required
  • Ability to maintain working knowledge and operations of laboratory techniques to support elastomers, injection molding, surface chemistry, and polymeric processes
  • Familiarity and knowledge of military specs, AMS/ASTM specs, and material specs related to the electrical connector industry
  • Familiarity with analytical techniques for material interrogation, FTIR, DSC, and various other techniques
  • Working knowledge of computers for generation of reports and data collection/analysis are required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with attention to detail
  • Frequent periods of computer usage, sitting, standing and walking
