Description
Shipping and Receiving:
Handle and maintain the flow of materials and products at the Main Library dock.
Confirm appropriate measurements for incoming and outgoing items to compare identifying information and verify against bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records.
Examine incoming shipments for damage or shortages and correspond with the shippers to resolve discrepancies; complete paperwork or forms required for documentation.
Analyze various shipping and receiving records to determine priorities, assignments, and work methods required to meet schedules, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
Process orders for standard stock items, such as shipping and mail materials.
Determine the appropriate method of shipment and resolve problems utilizing knowledge of shipping, receiving, stock, and surplus operations.
Responsible for keeping shipping and receiving areas clean and clear of any safety hazards.
Material Handling:
Operate motorized and non-motorized material-handling and mail-processing equipment.
Count, weigh, and measure incoming and outgoing items to compare identifying information and quantities against bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records.
Using the Library Van, transport high-dollar-cost equipment, supplies, mail, and materials to customers; properly secure cargo and distribute weight to ensure safe transport.
Distribute goods to and from salvage, storage, and surplus locations.
Move library office furniture, materials, equipment, and supplies.
Work closely with the Facilities Director to monitor supply levels and submit purchasing recommendations on a regular basis.
Operate and maintain material-handling equipment, including pallet jacks, hand trucks, and dollies, to move stock and reorganize storage areas.
Perform routine vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns.

Skill in operating material-handling equipment, including hand trucks, pallet jacks, and dollies.
Skill in operating large vehicles in tight and congested areas.
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, customers, and vendors.
