Materials Handling and Packaging Technician

Schedule: 12-hour shifts Mon–Wed / Mon–Thurs, 6:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

What a day looks like

Your shift begins with a safety huddle and a quick review of the day’s orders. You’ll move between packaging finished rolls, staging materials, and supporting the laminator team for rapid changeovers. Throughout the day you’ll:

• Strap, corner-protect, band, and stretch-wrap finished pallets by hand or with cranes.
• Operate forklifts and other plant material-handling equipment to relocate goods, supplies, and tooling.
• Collect scrap from hoppers, bale and secure with wire, and complete required documentation; transfer remaining waste to dumpsters.
• Assist laminator operators by changing doctor blades; swapping rubber, knurl, and idler rolls; changing print cylinders; grinding rubber rolls; and mixing adhesives and lacquer coatings to established formulas.
• Cut cable wrap cores to specified lengths using a miter saw or core cutter to speed changeovers.
• Jump in during downtime to help teammates and keep lines running smoothly.
• Practice 5S to keep work areas clean, organized, and free of waste with tools in designated homes.

Qualifications

• At least 6 months of experience in manufacturing or production.
• Forklift proficiency and confidence using common hand tools.
• Self-starter who takes initiative; strong team mindset.
• Willing to learn, take ownership, and work overtime when needed.
• Clear communicator; comfortable in a fast-paced plant environment.
• High School diploma or GED.

Physical demands

• Range of motion to frequently turn head/neck and twist upper body while seated.
• Fine motor skills to operate a forklift, including reversing and using mirrors; ability to run trucks with specialized attachments.
• Stand for more than 75% of the shift.
• Work a full shift in temperatures above 90°F with variable humidity; brief exposure above 110°F when loading trailers.
• Lift up to 55 lbs. on occasion (e.g., swapping propane cylinders).
