Materials Manager

We are seeking an experienced Materials Manager for a contract-to-hire opportunity supporting an expanding Transmission & Distribution (T&D) and Substation construction program in Austin, TX.
The Materials Manager will be responsible for managing material receiving, inspection, inventory, storage, tracking, and distribution across multiple active and upcoming projects. This position will coordinate closely with project teams, procurement, subcontractors, and the client to ensure materials and equipment are properly controlled and available to support construction schedules.
Responsibilities
- Manage the receiving, inspection, storage, inventory, and distribution of project materials and equipment.
- Coordinate material delivery schedules between procurement, vendors, subcontractors, and project sites.
- Oversee material receiving and documentation, including Material Receiving Reports (MRRs) and Over, Short & Damaged (OS&D) reports.
- Track material status and identify potential shortages, delays, or delivery issues that could impact project schedules.
- Perform inspections of materials and equipment delivered to project sites.
- Develop and manage site logistics plans, warehouse facilities, and material laydown yards.
- Ensure materials and equipment are properly stored, maintained, and preserved until installation.
- Coordinate the transfer of materials and equipment to subcontractors and field construction teams.
- Work with QA/QC personnel on preventive maintenance and recordkeeping for stored materials and equipment.
- Provide oversight and direction to subcontractors regarding material handling and control.
- Communicate material status, risks, and schedule impacts to project leadership, procurement, and the client.
- Support an evolving T&D program as additional transmission and substation projects are added.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 11+ years of materials management experience within the engineering and construction industry.
- Transmission & Distribution (T&D) and/or substation materials management experience strongly required.
- Experience managing materials across active construction sites, warehouses, and laydown yards.
- Strong knowledge of material receiving, inventory control, MRRs, OS&D reporting, and material tracking processes.
- Experience coordinating with subcontractors, procurement teams, project management, and clients.
- Experience with Primavera scheduling reports and material/submittal tracking reports preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage changing project priorities, and support multiple projects within an expanding construction program.
