Materials Manager

Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Materials Manager to support a major construction project in Lebanon, Indiana. The Materials Manager will be responsible for managing the receiving, inspection, storage, tracking, and transfer of client- and contractor-procured materials and equipment to subcontractors across various project sites.
The ideal candidate will have strong Transmission & Distribution (T&D) experience, along with a solid background in materials management within engineering and construction. This role will work closely with Procurement, Project Management, Quality, subcontractors, and field personnel to ensure materials are received, inspected, stored, and delivered according to project requirements and schedule.
The Materials Manager may also direct the work of Field Materials Coordinators, providing guidance, mentorship, and support for their professional development.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the receiving, inspection, storage, tracking, and transfer of project materials and equipment.
- Coordinate material delivery schedules and timing between procurement teams, job sites, subcontractors, and project personnel.
- Direct and oversee the receiving process for all incoming materials and equipment.
- Analyze and present material status reports to validate that shipments are delivered according to schedule.
- Advise the Procurement team of developments that could impact project cost, schedule, or client relationships.
- Implement, oversee, and administer project materials reporting processes and procedures.
- Prepare and manage Material Receiving Reports (MRRs) and Over, Short & Damaged (OS&D) reports.
- Distribute material reports to designated project and client personnel.
- Perform inspections of materials and equipment delivered to project sites.
- Develop and maintain site logistics plans.
- Develop, maintain, and oversee project warehouse facilities.
- Develop, maintain, and oversee project laydown yards.
- Ensure proper storage and maintenance of materials and equipment in accordance with project requirements and contract specifications.
- Assist the Quality Assurance/Quality Control Manager with preventive maintenance and associated recordkeeping for materials and equipment in storage.
- Oversee the transfer of custody of materials and equipment to designated subcontractors at the project site.
- Monitor material availability and identify potential issues that could affect construction activities.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records related to material receipt, storage, inspection, and distribution.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to Field Materials Coordinators as assigned.
- Collaborate with Procurement, Construction, Project Controls, Quality, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and project standards.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 11 years of direct materials management experience within the engineering and construction industry.
- Required Transmission & Distribution (T&D) experience.
- Strong understanding of construction materials management, logistics, receiving, storage, and material control processes.
- Experience managing materials on large-scale construction projects.
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
- Experience working with Primavera scheduling reports and material/submittal tracking reports.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong leadership and management capabilities.
- Ability to work effectively with project teams, subcontractors, vendors, and clients.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with little or no supervision.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced construction environment.
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting utility, power delivery, electrical infrastructure, or T&D construction projects.
- Experience managing field warehouses and laydown yards.
- Experience with material tracking systems and construction project controls.
- Experience coordinating material deliveries across multiple project sites.
- Experience working directly with subcontractors and construction field teams.
Additional Information
A fleet vehicle will be provided for work-related purposes for this position.
