Materials Procurement Specialist to their team.
Salary/Hourly Rate: $35/hr - $45/hr (Based on relevant experience)
Position Overview: The Materials Procurement Specialist will manage the timely procurement of raw materials, packaging components, and finished goods while using MRP and planning tools to maintain inventory targets, support production schedules, and promote continuity of supply. The Materials Procurement Specialist will work closely with Category Managers and cross-functional partners to coordinate supplier quotations, evaluate cost and purchasing data, prepare commercial comparisons, and support procurement improvement and cost-savings projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on procurement professional who enjoys balancing day-to-day purchasing responsibilities with analytical, project-based work.
Responsibilities of the Materials Procurement Specialist:- Purchase raw materials, packaging, and finished goods based on MRP and production requirements.
- Manage purchase orders and follow up on availability, lead times, and delivery schedules.
- Maintain inventory levels that support production while minimizing excess stock.
- Coordinate RFQs, obtain supplier quotes, and prepare cost comparisons for Category Manager review.
- Analyze spend, purchasing activity, supplier data, cost drivers, and material requirements.
- Support cost-savings and procurement improvement initiatives across assigned categories.
- Track procurement projects from initial opportunity through supplier implementation and savings realization.
- Collaborate with Procurement, Planning, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, Finance, and Legal.
- Help define material specifications, volumes, quality standards, and supplier evaluation criteria.
- Maintain accurate purchasing, supplier, project, savings, and risk documentation.
- Support sourcing decisions and the onboarding of approved suppliers.
- Provide backup support for production scheduling as needed.
- Report on project progress, risks, action items, and savings.
Required Experience/Skills for the Materials Procurement Specialist:- Two or more years of experience in procurement, purchasing, supply chain, materials planning, or a related function.
- Experience purchasing raw materials, packaging, ingredients, or related materials within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience using MRP or ERP systems to manage purchasing and material requirements.
- Familiarity with RFQs, supplier quote collection, bid comparisons, or benchmarking activities.
- Ability to analyze spend, pricing, supplier quotes, inventory data, and other commercial information.
- Strong Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
- Excellent organization, follow-through, and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills for working with suppliers and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple purchasing and project priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Materials Procurement Specialist:- Experience in chemical, pharmaceutical, process, or another regulated manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
Education Requirements:- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline is required.
