Methodist Hospital is looking to hire a Materials Specialist to join our surgical materials team! Come join us as a Partner for Good and help us make an impact on the care and experience that our patients and their families receive every day.

Position Summary:

Manage the materials inventory and distribution processes for the department. Manage inventory par levels for supplies and medical devices maintained in the department. Orders replenishment quantities as needed. Partners with department Coordinator to provide individualized service. Use clinical knowledge in decision making, ensuring materials needs are interpreted accurately and met. Reviews department schedule and determines supply, equipment and implant needs. Confirms needs with key stakeholders. Places orders with supplier directly or through purchasing. Follows through to ensure timely receipt and availability for scheduled and add-on or emergency procedures. Rents or borrows items from vendors or other institutions to meet non-purchase needs. Receives delivered items, verifies transaction documentation, enters into software system, and distributes product to designated inventory storage location. Follows up on back orders and product substitution with Purchasing. Communicates actions taken to stakeholders. Oversees vendor consigned inventories, ordering replenishment or additional items as needed. Reconciles inventory and usage records. Ensures patient charge item usage is accounted for with appropriate transaction information forwarded to Surgical Services patient billing. Works with department Coordinators and vendors to assure that FDA requirements for implant documentation are met. Actively participates in the Value Analysis process. Assists Department Supervisor in maintaining materials databases. Conducts inventory counts on a regularly scheduled basis: daily replenishment counts, cycle audit counts and annual inventories. Provides pertinent reports and recommendations regarding inventory levels.

Work Schedule:

  • 1.0 FTE / Days / Monday-Friday

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated computer skills (Windows and DOS based programs)
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • This position requires familiarity and compliance with matters of law, regulation and internal policies affecting the employment relationship (including but not limited to FLMA, ADA, discrimination and harassment laws, HIPPA, FDA)
  • Operating Room Technician (certification preferred)
  • Medical and surgical terminology
  • Knowledge surgical supplies and equipment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school graduate/GED strongly preferred, or equivalent supply chain experience
  • Two years of experience in inventory management
