    Duties

    Essential Duties: (Other duties may be assigned.)

    • Plan and instruct students on district Mathematics curriculum aligned to the Common Core Standards.
    • Develop lesson plans and goals that meet district expectations.
    • Provide instruction incorporating the Common Core Eight Mathematical Practices.
    • Partner in a Co-Taught Classroom: Collaborate interdependently with a Special Education co-teacher in Physics-Chemistry to co-plan, co-instruct, and co-assess, utilizing flexible co-teaching models to meet diverse learning needs and maintain an inclusive classroom culture.
    • Facilitate Discourse-Driven Inquiry: Design and lead classroom experiences rooted in driving phenomena and guided inquiry, fostering student-led discourse, active sense-making, and deep conceptual understanding across all student readiness levels.
    • Assess & Track Transferable Skills: Align grading and assessment practices with core scientific competencies-investigation, modeling, data synthesis, and evidence-based communication-utilizing accommodations and scaffolded rubrics to support individual student growth.
    • Cultivate a Safe, Iterative Classroom Culture: Normalize the scientific process by framing mistakes, model revisions, and data recalibrations as essential steps toward mastery rather than academic penalties.
    • Collaborate in High-Functioning TCTs: Work productively with course-level teams to co-design units, analyze student work, refine instructional strategies, and ensure consistency of rigorous, accessible science content across sections.
    • Foster Student Agency & Inclusivity: Empower every learner to engage in authentic scientific thinking, providing the necessary supports for students of all abilities to ask original questions, investigate real-world phenomena, and communicate their findings collaboratively.
    • Enrich or modify lessons, curriculum, materials and resources as needed to meet individual student needs and varying levels of progress.
    • Conduct formal and informal assessments to evaluate student progress. Administer standardized assessments as directed. Interpret student assessment data for application of instructional methods and monitoring of student progress.
    • Review student progress via assessments, maintain records of student work, and develop intervention strategies to ensure student success and growth.
    • Communicate verbally and in writing with parents and students regarding progress.
    • Meet regularly and work collaboratively with other departmental teachers and support teachers to plan equitable instruction across all classrooms of the same subject.
    • Meet regularly with support teachers, teacher assistants, and other support staff to discuss individual student's modifications or adaptations, ongoing learning issues, interventions or problems. Work collaboratively to ensure individual student's needs are met.
    • Assign work, instructions or lessons to substitutes and/or student teachers.
    • Actively participate on various building and District teams or committees.
    • Set clear expectations for class and manage classroom and school environment applying positive behavioral supports and interventions as needed.
    • Collaborate with other staff in planning, modifying, enhancing and implementing curriculum and district objectives.
    • Establish a safe atmosphere conducive to a positive learning environment. Inform students of safety concerns in all laboratory situations and assure their safety through supervision.
    • Act as a role model by encouraging appropriate behaviors that lead to social, emotional, and physical development
    • Enforce and support school policies, philosophies and objectives with students and parents.
    • Participate in staff development and school improvement activities in order to maintain professional growth. Plan and incorporate best practices or new strategies.
    • Participate in events outside of the regularly scheduled work day such as orientation, open houses, conferences, and/or division meetings.
    • Observe the professional day and maintain positive professional relations with colleagues.
    • Hold high expectations for all students and demonstrate a deep belief that all students can learn and succeed.
    • Communicate openly with students, staff, parents and other stakeholders regarding student's achievement and progress in the classroom.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Valid Illinois Professional Educator's License with Math and Science (Physics, Chemistry) endorsement.
    • ESL and Computer Science endorsements preferred.
    • Commitment to equity and and creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students.

    Salary/Benefits

    Per Faculty Senate collective bargaining agreement, initial placement on the salary schedule between BA and MA+60 depending on the educational level, and Step 1 and 5 depending on experience.

    Position Summary:

    We are seeking an innovative, student-centered educator to join our Math and Science Division. The ideal candidate embraces "the power of doing," prioritizing practice-based mastery and transferable skill development over traditional rote memorization. The OPRF Math division strives to nurture a deeper understanding and enhanced appreciation of mathematics by building the critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills of all students so that they can be successful in a global society as lifelong learners. The Math Teacher is responsible for planning and facilitating student-centered Math learning. A key element of the Physics-Chemistry assignment involves co-teaching alongside a Special Education educator to deliver an inclusive, highly supported curriculum. This position requires a skilled collaborator who thrives in team-oriented environments-both in a co-taught classroom and within a Teacher Collaboration Team (TCT)-to guarantee equitable, high-quality learning experiences for all students.
