The Opportunity:

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School (MLK) is seeking a Math Coach to join our community. The successful candidate will have experience planning, implementing, and adapting curriculum that supports proficiency in mathematical skills and the Common Core. They will have experience working with teachers to support pedagogical and content knowledge for mathematics teaching and learning.

The Mathematics Coach is a key member of the school leadership team, ensuring that our community is properly equipped to deliver world-class math instruction. Moreover, they will be fully committed to continuous learning, improvement, reflection, and collaboration to ensure that all students achieve at high levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support instruction and assessment of mathematics aligned to the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework for Mathematics Standards and to Cambridge Public Schools' district and mathematics department goals.
  • Design and implement school-based professional development, and strengthen the facilitation of school-based professional learning communities.
  • Facilitate school-based workshops that incorporate the latest research on best practices, curriculum, and assessment.
  • Support various district initiatives, such as curriculum development and alignment.
  • Co-plan and facilitate grade, cluster, and school-level planning meetings.
  • Develop and implement assessment instruments and guidelines for the purpose of data-based analysis of student learning and understanding.
  • Analyze district math data and support school mathematics coaches in their data inquiry cycle meetings with teachers.
  • Assist in gathering and providing resources to school-based coaches and teachers.
  • Provide leadership in the use of instructional technology and electronic data collection tools.
  • Create opportunities for community engagement.

Your Skill Set:

As the incoming Math Coach, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

  • Dedication to access and equity for all scholars to rigorous mathematical learning
  • A commitment to strong instructional and inclusive practices
  • Skill in facilitation of high-performing teams
  • Knowledge of pedagogical practices across all content areas, including management
  • Experience in the use of common formative assessments
  • Ability to provide professional development on the district-implemented mathematics program and support to colleagues and families from a variety of backgrounds
  • Energy, a sense of humor, commitment to teaching all children,
  • Evidence of leadership capacity
  • Belief that all children and teachers can learn
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university required
  • Massachusetts certification: Math, Grades 1-6, and/or Elementary Grades 1-6 required
  • Recent successful experience teaching mathematics in student-centered classrooms with inquiry-based methodologies in an urban, multicultural setting
