Math Coach (11-Month Position)
Position Summary
The Math Coach serves as an instructional leader who works collaboratively with the principal, teachers, interventionists, and support staff to strengthen mathematics instruction and improve student achievement for all learners. The Math Coach provides job embedded professional learning, instructional coaching, data analysis, and leadership to build teacher capacity and ensure high quality, standards aligned mathematics instruction throughout the school. This position reports directly to the Principal.
Essential Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
- Support the implementation of North Carolina mathematics standards, district curriculum, and evidence based instructional practices.
- Model exemplary mathematics lessons and co-teach alongside classroom teachers to demonstrate effective instructional strategies.
- Assist teachers in designing engaging, rigorous, and standards-aligned lessons that promote conceptual understanding and mathematical reasoning.
- Support the implementation of differentiated instruction, small-group instruction, and intervention strategies that meet the needs of all learners.
- Collaborate with the principal to monitor instructional effectiveness and promote continuous instructional improvement.
Coaching and Professional Learning
- Provide ongoing instructional coaching through observation, co-planning, co-teaching, modeling, and reflective feedback.
- Build teacher capacity by supporting best practices in mathematics instruction, classroom management during math instruction, and effective use of instructional resources.
- Facilitate grade-level Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) focused on student learning, instructional planning, and data analysis.
- Coordinate and deliver professional development aligned to school improvement goals and district initiatives.
- Mentor beginning teachers and support experienced teachers in refining instructional practices.
Data Analysis and Student Achievement
- Analyze formative, benchmark, diagnostic, and state assessment data to identify trends, strengths, and instructional priorities.
- Work collaboratively with teachers to develop instructional action plans based on student performance data.
- Monitor student progress and support the implementation of targeted intervention and enrichment opportunities.
- Assist grade-level teams in identifying students requiring additional academic support and monitor intervention effectiveness.
- Support schoolwide efforts to increase mathematics proficiency and student growth.
Collaboration and School Leadership
- Serve as a member of the school''s leadership team.
- Collaborate with the principal and school leadership to support the implementation of the School Improvement Plan.
- Foster positive relationships with teachers, staff, families, and district personnel to promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Assist with schoolwide instructional initiatives, academic celebrations, and family engagement opportunities related to mathematics.
- Promote a collaborative environment that encourages professional growth and shared leadership.
Curriculum and Program Implementation
- Support the implementation and fidelity of district-adopted mathematics curriculum and instructional resources.
- Assist teachers in integrating technology and digital learning tools into mathematics instruction.
- Coordinate mathematics intervention programs and enrichment opportunities for students.
- Stay current on research-based instructional practices and share innovative strategies with staff.
- Support vertical alignment of mathematics instruction across grade levels.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor''s Degree in Education required.
- Valid North Carolina Teaching License.
Experience
- Minimum of five years of successful elementary teaching experience, with demonstrated success in mathematics instruction.
- Had two years of scoring Exceeded Growth on Evaas Growth Index for Math or related subject
- Experience serving as a teacher leader, instructional coach, or curriculum facilitator preferred.
- Demonstrated record of improving student achievement and supporting teacher growth.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of elementary mathematics content, instructional best practices, and the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
- Strong understanding of data analysis and instructional planning.
- Exceptional coaching, mentoring, and adult learning facilitation skills.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with educational technology and instructional data systems.
