Math Instructor – Paid Training and Growth Path

Pay Range: $17–$19 per hour

Initial Training Rate: $17 per hour

Instructor Rate After Initial Training: $18 per hour

Advanced Instructor Rate: $19 per hour after completing additional training and demonstrating readiness

Help Students Build Math Skills and Confidence

• We are looking for dependable, patient, and enthusiastic Math Instructors who genuinely enjoy helping students learn.
• At Mathnasium, we do more than help students complete worksheets. We help students understand mathematics, build confidence, strengthen critical-thinking skills, and discover what they are capable of becoming.
• This position is a strong fit for current college students, recent graduates, future teachers, and other candidates who have strong mathematics skills and want meaningful part-time work.
• Previous tutoring or teaching experience is helpful but not required. We provide paid training and ongoing coaching.

Your Training and Pay Progression

• New instructors begin at $17 per hour while completing initial training and learning the Mathnasium Method, center expectations, instructional routines, and student-support standards.
• After successfully completing initial training and demonstrating readiness to work effectively with students, pay increases to $18 per hour.
• Instructors may then complete additional training and demonstrate stronger instructional capability to advance to $19 per hour.
• Advancement to each pay level is based on successful training completion and demonstrated performance, not time alone.

About the Position

• Math Instructors work directly with students in a supportive, small-group learning environment.
• You will help students understand mathematical concepts, strengthen foundational skills, complete individualized learning plans, and become more confident and independent learners.
• Students may range from elementary school through high school. Instructors may work with several students during the same instructional period, so the ability to stay organized, attentive, and encouraging is important.

What You Will Do

Support Student Learning

• You will use the Mathnasium Method and provided instructional materials to help students understand mathematics and strengthen their problem-solving skills.
• You will ask guiding questions, explain concepts clearly, encourage students to think independently, and adjust your support based on each student’s needs.
• Our goal is not simply to give students answers. Our goal is to help them understand the mathematics and feel more confident than when they arrived.

Create a Positive Student Experience

• You will greet students warmly and help create an environment where they feel welcomed, supported, and appropriately challenged.
• You will recognize effort, celebrate progress, encourage perseverance, and help students develop a more positive relationship with mathematics.

Monitor Progress and Complete Student Notes

• You will follow individualized learning plans, monitor student engagement, and communicate important observations to center leadership.
• You will complete accurate student notes and other required documentation before considering the session complete.

Support the Instructional Team

• You will communicate professionally with instructors and center leaders, ask questions when support is needed, and contribute to a cooperative team environment.
• You may also help prepare materials, organize the instructional area, and make sure the center is ready for the next student.

Current college students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Your major does not need to be mathematics, but you must demonstrate the required math proficiency.

Qualifications

• Strong math competency through at least Calculus I or Calculus AP AB
• Clear verbal communication skills
• Patience and the ability to connect with students
• Dependable weekday afternoon and evening availability
• Basic computer proficiency and the ability to learn new systems
• Ability to remain organized in a busy learning environment
• Willingness to complete training and apply coaching
• Previous tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or youth experience is helpful but not required

Applicants must complete a math literacy assessment demonstrating proficiency through at least Calculus I, provide documentation of authorization to work in the United States, and successfully complete a background check as permitted by applicable law.
