Class Description

The purpose of this class is to provide academic, mentoring and support services to participants in the TRIO Upward Bound Programs.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelors degree/Masters preferred in the subject area and three years of successful teaching experience working with high school students fostering retention or achievement. Demonstrated experience working with at-risk, underrepresented, minority or disadvantaged students. Experience providing instruction, advising, and/or academic support services. Teacher certification in High school Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, English, Foreign Language or professional work experience in an Elective content area is required.

SCHEDULE:

Every other Saturday (September- May)

Daily (End of July-Beginning of August)

Class Specific Essential Duties

  • Facilitate group and individualized instructional sessions to support student needs.
  • Monitor academic and educational progress of program participants.
  • Attend Staff meetings and trainings to review student progress; college and career readiness goals and discuss student growth across the curriculum.
  • Develop and implement content-specific coursework in accordance with Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) and the Maryland College & Career readiness standards.
  • Assist with the selection of secondary and postsecondary courses within the identified content area through knowledge of BCPS/CCBC Early College Access programs and articulation agreements.
  • Plan and facilitate varied projects and assignments through individualized and group work.
  • Counsel, monitor and maintain records of student academic outcomes and provide ongoing effective feedback to students.
  • Relate to students across a spectrum of academic preparedness levels including identification and support for students with learning disabilities.
  • Report academic and/or personal student concerns to the Program Leadership as it relates to students welfare, and special education needs.

Adjunct Faculty, Part Time Associates and Full Time employees are eligible to save for retirement using the Roth 403(b) savings feature. Employees may contribute traditional pre-tax 403(b) dollars and Roth 403(b) post-tax dollars simultaneously. The savings limits are combined for the Traditional 403(b) and the Roth 403(b) contributions.
  • Deferred Compensation Plan 457(b) offered through VOYA Financial Advisors, Inc. The 457(b) salary reduction authorization form is needed. The form is available on SharePoint Forms/Human Resources Forms.
