The School District of Whitefish Bay is looking for a part-time, 50% (.50 FTE) Math Interventionist at the Whitefish Bay Middle School. Interested candidates should either hold a Wisconsin DPI #1400 mathematics license, or an elementary license with additional training or background in mathematics.

At Whitefish Bay Middle School, we believe that equity and excellence are possible for our school. We strive to build character and confidence for our students. We guide a child's journey to self-discovery through positive risk-taking and social development in a rigorous, exploratory curriculum and a safe, supportive environment. We are a strong community of learners and are excited to bring a new member onto our team.

Our mathematics intervention program is designed to accelerate the progress of students who have demonstrated a need for additional support through their classroom performance and/or as indicated through universal screening data (ie. - STAR). Through daily small-group instruction, our interventionist builds independence in the mathematical skills necessary to succeed in the core curriculum, which is Illustrative Mathematics. Prior experience with AVMR, Do the Math, or other math intervention programs is preferred, but not required. Potential candidates should be well-versed in diagnostic tools used to determine a student''s strengths and areas of need. Communication with classroom teachers is essential, so strong oral and written skills are also required.

We seek an educator who can shift the mindsets of our struggling students to see that all students are mathematicians. Applicants must believe that success is possible for students, regardless of their history with the subject. We also believe that conceptual understanding proceeds procedural fluency. Therefore, we seek a math interventionist who is committed to developing both in their students.

This teaching position would include three (3), 45-minute groups per day, with each group consisting of one (1) to four (4) students. Regular data review meetings with members of the MTSS Team are expected. Frequent communication about progress with parents is also a responsibility of this position. It is also possible that this position may also support students in the regular education environment.

Perhaps most importantly, potential candidates should have a love for adolescent children, with an appreciation of the joys and challenges that come with teaching children at this age.

Questions about the position should be directed to Geoffrey Pontus, Principal at Whitefish Bay Middle School, via email: geoffrey.pontus@wfbschools.com.

Potential team members should have an unwavering commitment to growing diverse learners and be able to build classroom environments where all students assume the responsibility and ownership in their learning through setting goals, reflection, and self-assessment. Professional learning is a priority in our District, so team members must have a desire to be a creative and active professional who grows and implements a variety of instructional practices and innovative programming. We are a strong community of learners and are excited to bring a new member onto our team.

The School District of Whitefish Bay is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Applicants that would contribute to a diverse educational community are strongly encouraged to apply.
