COMPENSATION: $65,559-$113,636 Annually; depending upon experience

The Math Teacher serves as the lead math teacher for grades 5 through 8, guiding students through a rich and developmentally attuned journey in mathematics while cultivating clarity of thinking, perseverance, and confidence. Through thoughtfully prepared and engaging lessons, the teacher carries a coherent scope and sequence that supports each student’s growing capacity for abstract reasoning while remaining responsive to individual learning needs in collaboration with the learning support team.

In addition to teaching math in the middle grades, the Math Teacher assists teachers in grades 1 through 8 with math curriculum and lesson planning, helping to ensure a coherent and thoughtful progression of math learning across the school. Clear communication with families, careful stewardship of student progress, and regular reporting are integral to the role.

As an active member of the faculty, the teacher participates fully in the life of the school, attending meetings and events, contributing to governance, supervising students during the rhythms of the day, and fostering warm, professional relationships with students, parents, and colleagues in alignment with school policies and shared values.

Responsibilities include:

  • Plan and deliver effective and engaging math lessons for grades 5, 6, 7, and 8.
  • Maintain a scope and sequence that ensures a coherent and thoughtful progression through upper elementary and middle school math topics.
  • Assist teachers in grades 1 through 8 with math curriculum and lesson planning.
  • Adapt and differentiate teaching styles to student needs and interests, in collaboration with the learning support team.
  • Write weekly emails updating parents on class activities.
  • Maintain student records with regard to attendance and achievement.
  • Prepare student progress and grade reports for parents in accordance with school policies.
  • Provide supervision for recess and lunch duties.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and prior teaching experience  
  • Previous Waldorf training and/or a willingness to take Waldorf courses within the first few years of employment (professional development funding is available to substantially offset associated costs)  
  • Strong classroom management skills  
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for significant periods of time, and use staircases often  
  • Musical and artistic ability preferred, but not required
