Reports to: Building principal or other appropriately certificated superior as designated by the Superintendent. Job Goal: To instruct assigned students in designated subject matter area (s) in accordance with the course of study, curriculum or guides approved by the Board of Education. Performance Responsibilities:Remains abreast of current developments and interpretations of subject matter in assigned area (s).Remains abreast of current developments and interpretations in teaching methodology.Motivates students to master designated subject matter.Plans lessons that meet the needs, interests and abilities of the students.Endeavors to create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives.Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists, as required.Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and board policy.Assists in curriculum development and in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.Instructs, advises, coaches, supervises, and/or directs extracurricular activities.Supervises behavior in the hallways, lunchroom, and on school grounds for the safety and well-being of students, personnel and visitors.Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.Performs other duties which may be within the scope of his/her employment and certification as may be assigned by his/her superior (s) under the authority of the Board of Education.
