    Job Description

    Ivy Tech Evansville seeks a part-time math tutor to provide in person support to students in the college's Academic Support Center. This would be a great role for a teacher or educator seeking additional ways to connect with students or upper classman (Junior or Senior) university student looking for a part-time job.

    The role of the tutor is to assist students with assignments from a variety of courses. This would be a great role for a teacher or educator seeking additional ways to connect with students or upper classman (Junior or Senior) university student looking for a part-time job.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Demonstrate the learning process, show alternative methods of completing work, and encourage practice opportunities.
    • Take active role in promoting the tutoring program on campus to students and faculty.
    • Exhibit a positive welcoming attitude.
    • Accurately track students' hours spent in tutoring.
    • Work effectively as part of a team.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to student success in coursework.
    • Communicate effectively and respectfully by listening carefully to understand and paraphrase student questions.
    • Work productively with students and staff from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
    • Provide support for the LRC as assigned, including academic testing and library services.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Hiring Range:

    • This role pays $15.00 per hour

    Work Hours:  

    • The hours for this role vary based on student need but are Monday - Friday.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Candidates considered for tutoring positions under this postings must be able to provide instruction in person at the Evansville, IN campus.

    • Be a current student who has completed at least one semester at Ivy Tech OR have at least one semester experience as a tutor or faculty member or other participation within a learning community (examples: retired high-school teacher or recent college graduate)

    • If an Ivy Tech student: have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a “B” or better in the course they will tutor, and have no campus disciplinary record

    • Be able to communicate well orally and work well with diverse student populations

    • Maintain the confidentiality of tutoring sessions

    • Be willing to work under supervision

    • Must complete eight hours of basic training and participate in subsequent regular training sessions
