Duties and Responsibilities

Help Duties and responsibilities vary and may increase according to grade level Plan and carry out the collection and analysis of information, data, and standards used by the assigned organization to perform mathematics tasks. Carry out special projects designed to facilitate the full use of the interns training and development. Keep abreast of emerging technologies and professional developments to maintain current in the field and for application to work assignments. Perform scientific work in the field of mathematics in support of conventional projects or portions of larger projects and programs under the guidance of a senior mathematician or scientist.

  • Total salary varies depending on location of position

Education

  • In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Professional and Scientific Positions.
  • BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT
  • Degree in mathematics or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.
  • OR
  • Combination of education and experience - courses equivalent to a major in mathematics including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics as shown in A above plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Specialized Experience

  • GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-09 experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
  • GS-12: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
  • GS-13: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-12 experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
  • GS-14: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-13 experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
  • GS-15: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-14 experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • KSAs:
  • Knowledge of mathematics policies, theories, principles, and concepts, and familiarity with other scientific and engineering disciplines to carry out conventional scientific processes.
  • Knowledge of mathematics and related disciplines to design, develop, and adapt scientific methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of analytical techniques to develop, stimulate, and analyze data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of computer operations and standard software applications.
