Job Title: Paraprofessional

Location: McHarg Elementary

Reports To:Administrator

Supervises: Not applicable

Type of Position: Non-exempt, 9 month contract (183 days)

 

Qualifications: 

 

High school diploma or equivalent required. Candidates must pass the local Paraprofessional Exam or hold a minimum of an associate's degree.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in implementing instructional programs aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs) and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) under the direction of administrators and/or teachers.
  • Supports a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment by monitoring student safety and well-being.
  • Prepares and organizes instructional materials and classroom resources to support individual and group instruction.
  • Provides instructional support to individual students and small or large groups as directed.
  • Assists in collecting and documenting student data and progress, including attendance, behavior, academic performance, literacy, and other assigned areas.
  • Supports student mobility and personal needs, which may include lifting, transferring, guiding students, and managing classroom materials and equipment.
  • Assists with school safety procedures and emergency drills, including fire, tornado, bus evacuation, shelter-in-place, and lockdown drills.
  • Performs assigned supervisory duties, which may include hall, bus, lunch, or other student supervision responsibilities.
  • Attends required meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, fosters positive relationships, and models appropriate behavior for students.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with applicable laws and division policies.
  • Complies with all federal and state laws, School Board policies, administrative regulations, and procedures, including those governing special education.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by school administrators or teachers.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with students/children. Associates degree or higher.
