MTFPD Cadet
The McHenry Township Fire Protection District is committed to developing aspiring firefighters through hands-on training, mentorship, and community service.
Cadets will participate in hands-on training, including but not limited to deploying hose lines, flowing water, raising and climbing ladders ranging from 14–35 feet, using self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and face masks, hands-on use of ventilation equipment, various hand tools (axes, hooks, saws), and hydraulically powered equipment. Cadets will also participate in basic emergency medical training, including CPR certification, familiarization with ambulances, equipment use, and basic first aid. Cadets will train under the direct supervision of certified firefighters and emergency medical technicians.
Ages 15–18 years old are eligible to apply. The application will be open from May 6, 2026 to May 20, 2026
Cadets must complete the application in its entirety prior to participation. Biweekly training will be held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, beginning in September and continuing through the end of July.
Cadets of the McHenry Township Fire Protection District are an extension of the organization and are expected to operate in accordance with the Standard Operating Guidelines and Procedures set forth by the MTFPD. Cadets shall not qualify as trained employees of the district and therefore cannot operate or be used as personnel. Cadets are not permitted to operate within an IDLH atmosphere outside of supervised training.
