    SUMMARY:

    Provide comprehensive medical care to asthma and allergy patients served at PCHC, in accordance with the policies and procedures and philosophy of PCHC. All duties / responsibilities are performed across life cycle (infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric), as applicable.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    1. Perform physical examinations, treat illness, injuries, health problems, and address preventive health needs appropriate to that physician's training, experience, and specialty, taking into consideration the ambulatory nature of the health center.
    2. Communicate consultation findings back to the primary care team in a timely manner. Make appropriate referrals to specialists, subspecialties, hospital emergency rooms, hospital clinics, etc., when good medical judgment dictates such referrals.
    3. Ensure that standards of quality medical care are met. Participate in medical audits, performance improvement, and peer review activities, and participate in appropriate PCHC committees, when necessary.
    4. Provide in-service training sessions for other PCHC staff, as necessary.
    5. Diagnose and treating disorders and diseases of the immune system or immunologic conditions.
    6. Educate patients and their family members about treatment options, prognosis, and diagnoses related to immunology and allergy conditions.
    7. Order or perform various diagnostic tests that help diagnose various immunology conditions or allergic conditions.
    8. Coordinate with other medical professionals, including biomedical scientists, pediatricians, and immunologists, to determine the proper course of treatment.
    9. Gather and maintain the medical histories of patients to ensure proper care in the future.
    10. Perform various provocation tests related to allergies through the use of nasal, bronchial, conjunctival, food, oral, and medical challenges.
    11. Produce and maintain comprehensive data reports regarding specific patients and the progression or regression of their symptoms.
    12. Conduct a thorough understanding and recording of the patient’s medical history.
    13. Assess and inform about the various risks associated with therapy for treatment of the allergic and immunology disorders that a patient suffers from.
    14. Participate in continuing education courses, training activities, and additional learning opportunities. Participate in educational outreach to the PCHC medical staff regarding common asthma and allergy conditions
    15. Advise other healthcare providers regarding allergy and immunology healthcare-related issues.
    16. Conduct laboratory and in-office testing on allergy and immunology concerns.
    17. Participate in appropriate integrated primary care specialty clinical research and present findings at national conventions, national meetings, networking meetings peer-reviewed journals, and publications.
    18. Attend PCHC staff meetings, unless direct patient duties prevent such attendance.
    19. Serve as a resource and consultant to PCHC primary care clinicians as needed. When assigned by the Medical Director, audit clinician charts and help assure that professional staff are providing care within generally accepted current standards.
    20. Ensure proper and current charting in the medical records.
    21. Participate in Performance Improvement, Risk Management, and Peer Review activities at PCHC. This includes peer review audits, chart reviews, etc.
    22. Coordinated Care/Patient Centered Medical Care Management: Works with all members of the Health Care Team towards achieving coordinated patient centered care. Demonstrates knowledge of the goals and objectives of PCHC’s patient care management plan. Effectively able to perform and communicate individual task within role in the process.
    23. Participate in PCHC outreach activities in accordance with PCHC policies and procedures.
    24. Maintain client confidentiality at all levels of interaction in strict compliance with State and federal laws and regulations.
    25. Perform other job-related duties deemed necessary by Supervisor.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    None

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education – Board Certified or Board Eligible. Must have current M.D. or D.O. license in Rhode Island. Maintain ongoing professional education as mandated by state regulation. Maintain appropriate hospital privileges in accordance with PCHC policies.

    Experience – bilingual and bicultural skills valued.

    RESTRICTIONS:

    May not have any private practice without the written approval of the Medical Director. A private practice without such approval is grounds for immediate dismissal.
