Base Pay $23.00 - $23.00 / HourJob Category Meal ProgramEmployee Type Hourly - Part TimeUnder the direction of the Active Older Adult (AOA) Program Coordinator, the Meal Program Kitchen Assistant will support the preparation and cooking of weekly meals for in‑person senior lunches on Fridays and to‑go community meals 1–2 times a week. The Assistant will also be responsible for maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen and adhering to all California State food safety standards. Meals will primarily consist of Chinese dishes and will serve groups of 70–120 people per meal. The assistant will work with 2–3 other assistants as well as senior and corporate volunteers for all meals. This position is for one year beginning July1,2026 and ending June30,2027, and staff are eligible to re‑apply once the term ends.Job ResponsibilitiesCook and prepare meals for 70–120 participants, 2–3 times per weekMaintain kitchen in clean, sanitary, and safe condition according to Public Health CodeCommunicate effectively with all kitchen support staff and volunteers, fostering a positive and efficient working atmosphereComplete all mandatory Talent LMS safety training and Y-USA eLearning before the first shift in the facilityAttend staff meetings and trainings as requiredAll other duties as assigned by your supervisorUphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk managementDemonstrate the Character Counts values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staffDemonstrate competencies in and willingness to develop in the Cause Driven Leadership areas of mission advancement, collaboration, operational effectiveness and personal growthQualificationsMust be 21 years of age or olderOne or more years' experience working in food serviceMust have availability for 4–18 hours per week on weekdaysCurrent YMCA approved first aid, CPR, and AED certifications (or ability to acquire within 3 months of hire)Current Food Safety Handler Certification (or ability to acquire within 3 months of hire)Preferred Qualifications (Optional)Bilingual skills in Cantonese, Mandarin, and/or EnglishHigh School Diploma or equivalentReside in Chinatown communityWork Environment & Physical DemandsMust have the physical, visual and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodationMust be able to lift heavy items (up to 25 pounds) for a short period of timeDisclaimersMust successfully complete a background screening, including criminal and employment verification.
