    JOB SUMMARY:

    Meat Clerk 2 is an advanced, certification-based Meat Department position responsible for performing specialized department functions independently while maintaining standards for food safety, product quality, sanitation, merchandising, operational execution, best practices, and elevated guest service.

    The Meat Clerk 2 associate demonstrates proficiency in one or more designated specialty areas, performs specialized tasks with minimal supervision, and may serve as a resource for other team members while supporting efficient department operations.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Perform assigned production, merchandising, and product-handling activities within certified specialty areas.
    • Maintain product quality, freshness, presentation, and inventory standards
    • Record production, packaging, shrink, and inventory activity accurately and on time in department systems, including Fresh Item Management (FIM) tools where in use.
    • Follow all food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas and operate equipment according to established procedures.
    • Deliver elevated guest service through our Service Values by answering product-related questions and offering recommendations within the scope of training and certification and in response to business needs.
    • Support department goals and operational needs through flexibility and cross-functional support.

    Certification Requirements

    • Certification verifies that an associate has demonstrated the knowledge and practical skills needed to work independently in a designated specialty area. Associates may earn certification in multiple specialty areas, expanding their ability to support department operations and increasing flexibility within the Meat Department.

    Work assignments are based on completed certifications, demonstrated proficiency, and business needs.

    Fresh Item Management (FIM) Expectations

    • As Fresh Item Management (FIM) is introduced within the Meat Department, the Meat Clerk 2 supports accurate department execution by recording production, packaging, shrink, waste, transfers, and inventory activity as required. Associates use FIM tools and system-generated guidance to support daily production and ordering decisions, identify variances, and maintain item, scale, label, and inventory accuracy. Specific FIM responsibilities may vary by store, specialty area, and business needs.

    REQUIREMENTS AND CONDITIONS:

    Education/Experience/Skills

    • High School education is preferred but not required.
    • Have at least one year of experience in the Meat Department as a Meat Clerk or Meat Clerk 2.
    • Completion of training program or equivalent experience.
    • Experience working in meat and seafood areas, including knowledge of products.
    • Experience in customer service.
    • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) preferred.
    • California Food Handler Certificate preferred.

    Knowledge, skills and abilities:

    • Proficiency in English for communication and understanding instructions.
    • Knowledge of various cuts and types of meat and seafood products, and paqueteria.
    • Ability to pass a standard drug test.

    Physical Demands and Conditions

    • Regularly required to sit, stand, and use hands.
    • Frequently walk, talk, hear, and reach with hands and arms.
    • Occasionally crouch or kneel.
    • Occasionally lift up to 75 pounds.
    • Exposure to low temperatures in refrigerated and frozen food storage areas.
    • Exposure to high temperatures near heated ovens.
    • Vision abilities for close vision and focus adjustment.
    • Typical office and retail store environment with usually quiet noise levels.
