    Description

    The Meat Cutter ensures the store's meat department operates at the standards set by the company, driving sales and maximizing profitability. The Meat Cutter delivers the highest level of customer service and satisfaction by following the company's meat merchandising plan and trimming /preparing standard cuts of meat as outlined in the Meat Cutter Resource Manual. The Meat Cutter demonstrates excellent teamwork, interpersonal skills, and commitment to the success of the team.Responsibilities

    Works under the direction of the Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager and Meat Cutter II/TrainerUses knives and power equipment, cuts and/or packages authorized beef, pork and poultry items according to company policies and proceduresWraps, weighs and prices cuts of meatLabels packages according to COOL, USDA and company standardsEnsures displays and case signs are updated appropriately, and meat is merchandised and presented to maximize salesMay assist with product orderingMaintains proper date rotation for dated and undated products per company policy, both in the display case and in the storage coolersPrepares and places meat cuts and products in the display counter according to company procedures so they will appear attractive and appealing to the customersReceives, inspects, and stores meat upon delivery, to maintain cold chain and ensure meat qualityEnsures excellent sanitation and quality standards are met daily which adhere to company policyFollows and executes all company policies and procedures which includes but is not limited to: COOL, Food Safety, Sanitation, Meat/Produce Scale operation, Mark Downs, Inventory Processes, Meat POG's, Meat Cutter Resource Manual, Daily Manager Signoff and Meat Cutting ListResponsibilities may include other perishable and non-perishable related duties necessary to maintain optimal store performanceProtects company property, funds and merchandisePerforms other duties as assigned

    About You

    Must be 18 years of ageHigh School diploma or equivalent requiredExperience safely using manual pallet jacks, hand tools and power equipment, including but not limited to knives, wrappers, scales, slicers, cubing machine, and power saw (where certified to cut meat) preferredSuccessful completion of the Cutter Training Program within 3 monthsCompany work history will be strongly considered, including attendance, work performance, safety, policy compliance and performance managementProficiency in basic math skills required, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and divisionMust be able to read, write and speak in English. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication, interpersonal skills. Language proficiency in Spanish or other languages is a plusMust be dependable and flexible, including a willingness to work in other areas of the store, as needed with little or no advance noticeExcellent customer service, teamwork and problem-solving skillsMust adhere to a uniform dress code

    Physical Requirements

    Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled environment with a standard temperature of 38-45 degreesRequires the ability to reach, bend, twist, balance, lift and transport various objects weighing up to 30 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift; at times, product weight may reach 100 poundsRequires the ability to move heavy product with assistanceMust have the ability to stand, walk and / or move about for extended periods of timeRequires the ability to push, pull, grasp and use sawing motions for extended periods of time
