Position Summary
The Meat Manager is responsible for overseeing all meat department operations, including product quality, food safety, inventory management, merchandising, team leadership, and financial performance. This role ensures compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements while driving sales, controlling shrink, and delivering an exceptional customer experience.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development
Lead, coach, train, and develop meat department associates to meet performance and service expectations
Create effective schedules aligned with business needs and labor standards
Provide ongoing coaching, performance feedback, and corrective action as needed
Ensure associates are properly trained in meat cutting, packaging, food safety, and customer service
Meat Department Operations
Oversee daily operations including cutting, trimming, grinding, wrapping, and merchandising meat products
Ensure adherence to quality, freshness, portion control, and presentation standards
Manage ordering, forecasting, inventory levels, and product rotation
Ensure department equipment is maintained, cleaned, and safely operated
Food Safety & Compliance
Ensure strict compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
Maintain accurate temperature logs, sanitation schedules, and required documentation
Ensure proper handling, storage, labeling, and rotation of all meat products
Prepare for and respond to internal and external audits
Sales, Margin & Shrink Control
Drive sales through effective merchandising, promotional execution, and seasonal programs
Monitor margins, shrink, spoilage, and markdowns to meet financial targets
Analyze sales trends and production data to optimize labor and product mix
Control department expenses and support overall store profitability
Customer Experience
Deliver exceptional customer service and resolve escalated customer concerns
Ensure product availability, freshness, and department presentation meet customer expectations
Maintain a clean, organized, and customer‑ready department at all times
