About this Job

OUR MISSION

To provide riverine flood protection for an 8-arish district on the Atchafalaya and Mississippi River levees. To maintain equipment and work to prepare the levees for high water events and annual levee inspections.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

The typical day of work activities for the Mechanic 3 are making repairs to all types of wheel tractors, vehicles and trucks, heavy duty equipment and diesel engines. Responsible for determining and purchasing the proper parts for equipment and vehicles. This incumbent will work under the supervision of the Mechanic Supervisor A.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience or training as a mechanic.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Perform repairs to all types of wheel tractors, vehicles and trucks, heavy duty equipment and diesel engines. Assist in dismantling tractors, mowers, draglines, bulldozers and other automotive equipment to repair and overhaul same

  • Perform incidental repair work on heavy equipment. Pick up necessary parts and assist shop mechanics in performing major overhaul jobs. Make minor repairs to other small equipment used around shop.

  • Use independent decision on most mechanical tasks

  • Responsible for determining and purchasing the proper parts for equipment and vehicles. Duties also include repairs on varios gasoline driven engines.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: This appointment type can be filled as Probationary - up to 24 months.

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
