OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
This position is part of a Career Progression Group (CPG) and may be filled as a Mechanic 1, 2, 3, or 4.
The Mechanic position is a valuable part of the Red River, Atchafalaya & Bayou Boeuf Levee District because of the function of work to repair and maintain all levee board vehicles and equipment. Assist other RRABB employees in completing levee board projects. This incumbent will work under the supervision of Levee Maintenance Manager.
This position will require traveling within the following parishes: Rapides, Avoyelles, and St. Landry Parish.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience or training as a mechanic.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
This position is the sole mechanic for the Levee Board.
Main responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Performs repair/maintenance services to the entire RRABB equipment fleet as well as the entire RRABB vehicle fleet for the Agency. This includes light to heavy repair/maintenance activities. Includes in-shop and field repairs.
Coordinates with vendors/supply houses/outside repair shops to keep fleet in working order and to keep supplies/parts in stock at RRABB's shop. Obtains, receives and reviews quotes and issues PO's for purchasing.
Maintains adequate equipment parts and supplies at RRABB's main shop. Keeps inventory, organizes and stocks parts at the main shop.
Provides guidance and recommendations to the Levee Maintenance Superintendent and the ED concerning equipment/vehicle repairs and how to move forward with certain repairs/maintenance activities.
Provides guidance concerning equipment/vehicle purchasing for budgetary purposes, obtains cost estimates and equipment/vehicle specifications to aid in budget decisions (long term and short term).
