About the Position
Lane County is seeking a skilled and dependable Mechanic 2 to support our fleet operations, with a primary focus on heavy-duty equipment and vehicle maintenance. This position plays a critical role in keeping essential county services moving by ensuring our fleet is safe, reliable, and ready to serve the community.
In this role, you will perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repair on a wide range of equipment, including Class 5–8 trucks, trailers, construction equipment, and specialty vehicles. You’ll work both independently and as part of a team to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues, complete preventative maintenance, and support the overall performance of the County’s fleet.
This is a specialized assignment within the Mechanic 2 classification, with an emphasis on heavy-duty operations. While your primary focus will be heavy equipment, you will also be expected to perform the full range of duties outlined in the County’s Mechanic 2 classification, supporting a diverse fleet that serves multiple departments and community needs.

About the Division
Fleet Services is responsible for providing a modern, well-equipped vehicle and equipment fleet that is maintained and utilized at the lowest reasonable cost while minimizing environmental impacts. Fleet and General Services Fund is associated with procurement, maintenance, operation, and replacement of fleet assets and are charged directly to the user department through rental rates. Fleet Services provide vehicles, equipment, maintenance services and fuel to County departments and several Federal, State, and local partner agencies.*This is a 626 represented position*
Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by completion of a two-year training program/apprenticeship in automotive or heavy equipment mechanics.
