Mechanic B- Substation

Summary: Employee is assigned to install and maintain remote control equipment, including switchboard instruments and wiring thereof at substation and remote-control points.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Must be qualified to inspect, repair, and maintain breaker houses, oil switches, transformers, network protectors and all other appurtenances necessary in electric traction substation department.
  • Must be capable of taking out clearances for himself and others under the supervision of substation.
  • Installation, repair, and troubleshooting of commercial or industrial electrical wiring.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • Electromechanical experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams.
  • Pass New Jersey Transits Electrician Aptitude Test.
  • Preferred knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
  • Present a valid drivers license.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Commercial Driver License (desired not required).

Other Conditions: This is a Unionized position.

Rate of pay: The pay rates are tiered and are non-negotiable based on years and types of experience. Tiers start at $29.11 (80% of the full rate). The 100%-tiered rate is $36.39.

Work Location: Summit, NJ; Newark, NJ; Red Bank, NJ.
