Our client is a specialized heavy civil contractor performing complex excavation, bridge, dam rehabilitation, marine, and heavy concrete work throughout Maine and New Hampshire. They are a small, highly capable team that takes on technically challenging infrastructure projects.
Job description – What You’ll Do
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy civil equipment (excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, compactors, haul trucks).
- Perform preventive maintenance, services, and DOT/annual inspections where applicable.
- Troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical, cooling, fuel, and drivetrain systems.
- Rebuild/replace components (pumps, cylinders, undercarriage, pins/bushings) and perform alignments/track adjustments.
- Conduct field service at job sites using a service truck; complete shop repairs as needed.
- Perform light fabrication/welding for brackets, guards, and wear items.
- Use diagnostic software and manuals to pinpoint faults; verify repairs with test procedures.
- Keep accurate maintenance logs, parts usage, and work orders in the CMMS.
- Maintain a clean, safe workspace; manage fluids, filters, and waste per environmental rules.
- Communicate clearly with foremen and operators about timelines, parts, and equipment status.
Tools & Equipment
- Company provides service truck, major/specialty tools, and diagnostic software.
- Mechanic supplies personal hand tools and toolbox (tool allowance available if offered).
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Frequent climbing on/off equipment, kneeling, bending, and working at heights or in confined spaces.
- Exposure to dust, grease, noise; strict adherence to safety procedures and PPE.
