Definition

The City of Missouri City, known as the Show Me City, is seeking a full-time Mechanic II (Craft Workers) position in the Citys Internal Services Department, Fleet Division. An individual in this position is responsible for performing repairs and preventive maintenance on all City owned vehicles and equipment with minimal supervision. Reporting relationship: Fleet Supervisor.

Examples of Work

  • Diagnoses and perform repairs using various tools and equipment; contact vendors for needed parts; perform welding duties; and ensure equipment is in safe operating condition;
  • Changes oil and filters; lubricate parts; check and refill all fluids; test batteries and cable connections; inspect belts and hoses; check tires for proper inflation; inspect brake system; test interior and exterior lights; and replace windshield wipers for all City owned vehicles and equipment as needed for preventive maintenance;
  • Creates and maintain accurate work order records; document labor hours and parts used; complete daily fuel report; compile various reports; conduct inventory; order parts and supplies; maintain contact with various vendors and update diagnostic computers;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned;
  • Subject to 24-hour recall.

Education, Experience, or Certification

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate;
  • A minimum of five (5) years relevant professional experience;
  • Valid Class B Commercial Drivers License; and Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) 7 (or MACS equivalent) certification required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Certification, ASE Medium-Heavy Truck Certifications; and Emergency Vehicle Technician Maintenance/Repair Certifications preferred.

Supplemental Information

The Department of Human Resources & Organizational Development may consider an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. Works as an essential employee before, during, and after emergencies or disasters, whether natural or man-made. Subject to emergency operations recall and other assignments necessary to maintain continuity of City services.
