Mechanic II

Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government's Mechanic II is responsible for assisting in the repair, maintenance, and inspection of gasoline, diesel, and electric-powered vehicles and equipment used throughout the Solid Waste Division.

Job Duties ------------
Assist in performing diagnostic work, repairs, and preventive maintenance on parish vehicles, heavy equipment, and mechanical systems. Support the inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of various engine types, including two-cycle, four-cycle, air-cooled, gasoline, diesel, and pump systems. Repair and replace components major components such as transmissions, rear ends, hydraulic systems, power steering units, disc and drum brake systems, and air-conditioning systems. Help conduct urgent diagnostic assessments and provide technical support under the direction of the Operations Supervisor. Participate in tearing down mechanical assemblies, replacing worn or damaged parts, and restoring equipment to safe operating condition. Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, services, and parts usage as directed. Assist with purchasing required parts and supplies and ensure proper submission of invoices and documentation. Support the scheduling and coordination of repairs with external vendors and assist with transporting vehicles or equipment as needed. Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment by cleaning spills, organizing tools, and safeguarding equipment. Participate in rotating on-call duties and respond promptly to emergency or field/roadside service needs as directed by supervisory staff. Assist in providing training and safety guidance to equipment operators. Operate heavy equipment and trucks as required and provide support during accident recovery, structural repairs, and other operational tasks. Participate in quarterly One-on-One meetings with Supervisor. Complete all required annual trainings-including ethics, harassment prevention, diversity, and cybersecurity-in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards. Ensure all duties and responsibilities are performed with integrity, professionalism, and in good faith, consistently upholding and protecting the interests, reputation, and assets of the Parish government. Perform any additional task as required by Supervisor.

Communication Skills: Clearly communicates repair needs, safety concerns, and equipment status with team members, supervisors, and external vendors. Organizational Skills: Maintains accurate service records, manages parts inventory, and ensures the workshop remains clean, safe, and well-ordered. Technical Skills: Demonstrates advanced proficiency in repairing gasoline, diesel, and electric-powered equipment, and operates diagnostic tools and heavy machinery effectively.
Qualifications: High school diploma or GED certification. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance.
