A Day in the Life of: No two days are exactly the same. You may begin your morning performing preventive maintenance on commercial lawn equipment, then move on to diagnosing an engine issue with a mower, trimmer, or blower. Throughout the day, you'll inspect equipment, replace worn components, test repairs, maintain service records, and help keep an inventory of critical replacement parts. Responsibilities and Duties:As a Mechanic, you will perform preventive maintenance and repairs on gasoline- and diesel-powered equipment, including commercial lawn mowers, string trimmers, backpack blowers, and related machinery. You will diagnose mechanical issues, disassemble engines, inspect components, and repair or replace parts such as bearings, valves, pistons, pumps, and crankshafts. The role also includes testing equipment performance, maintaining accurate maintenance records, managing spare parts inventory, repairing janitorial equipment, and performing routine maintenance on agency vehicles.You will follow all safety policies and procedures, support SOAR365's mission and values, and work effectively with employees, volunteers, and interns to foster a positive and productive workplace. Requirements and QualificationsCandidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and have at least two years of experience operating, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining commercial lawn equipment. A strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of engines, tools, and equipment repair methods are essential.The successful candidate will have experience using hand, electric, and pneumatic tools; the ability to diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions; and the capability to safely operate small gas- and electric-powered equipment. Strong communication, documentation, and basic computer skills are required.Applicants must possess a valid Virginia driver's license with an insurable driving record. The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, climbing, pushing, and pulling in both indoor and outdoor environments.
