Job Summary
The inserter is responsible for assembling mechanical seals for steam and gas turbines, trimming seals to length in accordance with work instructions, drawings, and quality standards. This role supports efficient production flow by ensuring parts are properly assembled and prepared for subsequent operations.
Key Responsibilities
Accurately insert components, materials, or hardware into parts per work instructions, drawings, and specifications
Verify correct orientation, fit, and placement of inserts before releasing parts to the next operation
Use hand tools, fixtures, presses, and simple machines as required
Perform visual and dimensional inspections to ensure conformance to quality requirements
Identify, segregate, and report non-conforming parts or materials in accordance with quality procedures
Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas (5S compliance)
Follow all safety policies, PPE requirements, and shop floor rules at all times
Document work as required using travelers or electronic systems
Meet production targets while maintaining quality and safety standards
Support continuous improvement initiatives and provide feedback on process issues
Qualifications & Skills
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Manufacturing or assembly experience preferred (training is provided)
Ability to read and follow work instructions, travelers, and basic drawings
Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced production environment
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 35 lbs as required
Frequent use of hands for handling small components
Ability to bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions
Work Environment
Manufacturing shop floor environment
Exposure to noise, machines, and production equipment
Use of required PPE including safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe footwear
Safety & Quality Commitment
Inserters are expected to follow all safety procedures, stop work for unsafe conditions, and produce parts that meet all quality and customer requirements.
